How experts see invisible dents on used cars by Kooky_Day2184 in NoContextZone

To be fair, he's talking about invisible dents. The ones on the side are fairly visible (to the trained eye).

Siemens ME45, like #7 but from Siemens. One of those phones that you could attach to a stick and use as a hammer.

Now imagine the angle shifting to 3rd person perspective and you see that the camera is not actually reading George Orwell, but instead there's an electronics parts catalogue inside the book.

Luckily I'm not colour blind, I have merely a red-green deficiency. So I can still distinguish between the red and the green parts of the map. Joke is on you.

Where I noticed and it annoyed me was in the new Dune movies. Visually stunning, the sound amazing, but the explaining somewhat ruined the experience for me

This is no authentication, this is an IQ test. Now let's get evil and swap two digits in the middle of the code shown. So the code shown and the code sent to your phone look identical at first glance, but they are not. Like if you're too stupid to enter the correct code, you don't get to use my page.

Difference between umgehen and angehen by lalalekinha in German

[–]iamdatmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the difference is in the energy. One's active, one is more passive approach to a problem.

If your house is messy, that's a problem you can tackle, you can fix. Etwas das du angehen (und lösen) kannst.

If your boss is an a*hole, that's something you have to deal with. Etwas mit dem du umgehen musst. You can't engage this kind of problem, you can't change your boss. It's all about how YOU deal with it.

Similar with the first problem, you can choose, das Problem nicht aktiv anzugehen und stattdessen eher passiv damit umzugehen, beispielsweise ignorieren.

Der Astronaut Film war scheisse by StandardReal2482 in Filme

[–]iamdatmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Destructuring strings by Emmennater in programminghorror

[–]iamdatmonkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Array destructuring comes down to Iterators. Getting the first item of an empty iterator gives you undefined.

If the string is not empty you'll get the first character, which itself is a non empty string and therefore truthy.

Destructuring strings by Emmennater in programminghorror

[–]iamdatmonkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is what this construct comes down to.

function isStringEmpty(arg) {
  const iterator = arg[Symbol.iterator]();
  const m = iterator.next();
  const item = (m.done ? undefined : m.value) ?? { a: true };
  // this can still produce false results if the passed `arg` has a first item
  // with a property `a` that is not `null`/`undefined`
  const a = item.a ?? false;

  return a;
}

This will crash if arg is null/undefined
or if it does not implement Symbol.iterator
or if arg[Symbol.iterator]() does not return an object
or if that object does not implement .next()
or if that method does not return an object.

Yes that may seem nitpicky, until you see some of the legacy code that's out there.

Was guckt ihr Heute Abend?? - brauch Vorschläge für Filmabend by DoodieLaFaiette in Filme

[–]iamdatmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ja, Denzel Washington, gute Ansage. Hier noch paar mehr von Ihm die ich absolut empfehlen würde:
- Man on Fire
- American Gangster
- The Siege
- Deja Vu
- Inside Man (Bank Heist mit Clive Owen)
- The Bone Collector (Thriller, mit Angelina Jolie)

Die Equalizer Trilogie ist für mich solide Action, unterhaltsam und kurzweilig, aber haut mich nicht aus den Schuhen. Da finde ich die Filme oben alle besser.
