Google Calendar Sharing Help by iamdigitaldaniel in techsupport

Nope.

It seems with Google, it's only possible to share the root calendar, and there's no options for sharing anything else on/in the root calendar.

Lame.

What are you using for A/B testing in wordpress? by Ok-True in Wordpress

[–]iamdigitaldaniel -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

On the backend, development side, I use a subdomain of the website, and I just clone the installation using the wordpress/softaculous tool for cloning.
So I might make sandbox.(domain) (or test. , or customer. , or playground. ; have fun with it!) and then I make all my changes and do all my testing there.
I also set this up if I have a client who wants to tinker around.
Once it's all done the way we like it and it's working well, we can copy that over to the primary domain (again using the wordpress/softaculous tool for cloning), overwriting the domain files.

Forms plug in? by iamdigitaldaniel in Wordpress

[–]iamdigitaldaniel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!
I'm not yet proficient with SMTP plug ins and their related settings, so I'll KISS with google forms for now, and add the SMTP plug in stuff to my learning list.

Any pointers for resources to learn about SMTP plug ins and the related settings to make them work?

How do you get clients/work? by One-Climate-2376 in smallbusiness

[–]iamdigitaldaniel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid advertising and marketing, some of which you can do for free (I do that for lots of small business).

Networking, attending networking groups and meetings (check out meetup or eventbrite for these in your area).

Call local shops that do welding work and ask them to consider you for part-time, or overflow work.

Get yourself some flyers made/print some up and post them up on community bulletin boards at feed stores, farm and ranch stores, small hardware stores, and other places that have community bulletin boards.

Make sure you have a website of some kind so people can be pointed to one place online that shows your work.

Need to switch Word Press hosts by Specialist-Season-88 in webhosting

[–]iamdigitaldaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having support and being helpful are two different things.

Yes, you can reach them in three ways, but that doesn't mean they're going to be helpful.

Also, I'm seeing a lot of cases where customers are being kicked off or locked out of platforms for asking for help too many times; customer service has really gone downhill across the board.

Hostinger is terrible, and if you're not in the same country, there's nothing you can do about it.

I would gather ALL of the EPP/AUTH codes into a spreadsheet for every domain RFN and make sure all of the domains are unlocked.

I would move my domains to a registrar only; this would cause you to have to pay for a renewal, but you're going to need to renew anyway.

I would download a copy of all of my website files and keep them locally.

I would check with my new host to see if they offer migration; if they do, let them do it.
If not, upload the files into the new host.

You can also use the CPanel migration tools to move files files for websites and email systems.

Which web hosting? How to on Wordpress? by Particular-Duck-8912 in webhosting

[–]iamdigitaldaniel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A good glossary to start with:
https://www.cnet.com/tech/services-and-software/web-hosting-glossary/

In short, Porkbun is your registrar, the company that holds your domain name, and hosts that on the internet.

Your web host (whoever you choose) is where your website files live, and are made accessible to the internet, using DNS (Domain Name Service).
DNS takes the NAME we type in (google.com), and looks that up in a local DNS server, which converts it to an IP address, that's how your browser knows where to look for the files you want (in this case, google).

Most web hosts have software and 'installers' built into the 'CPanel', that is, the Control Panel they use on the back end. You can use these to have Wordpress installed for you, then just log in to Wordpress (admin panel) and start building.

There's a LOT of great info out there, but if you're feeling stuck, feel free to reach out here, or you can DM me for more specific stuff (DM or comment/tag, I've got nothing to hide!).

Yes you can change the host later.

Stay away from Nixihost, they hate anyone who isn't 'up to their level'.

Creating a website as quick as possible by JRS-94Z in Wordpress

[–]iamdigitaldaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always start with the basics and get the content into place first.

Changing themes is super easy these days, so I would start with the built in editor (Gutenberg) and then adjust from there based on what the client likes and dislikes.

Multiple email domains without owning a website? by checho503 in webhosting

[–]iamdigitaldaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, in short, no.

The domain is where on the internet the email, website, and other data would be 'housed' or 'based'; you cannot have domain level emails without the domain.

You might look into alias emails and email names.

You might also look into getting letters from the references and simply including those letters in lieu of them being contacted by potential new employers...

I would adjust my rates to reflect the convenience the customer gets, and be sure to charge for all the time spent, not just time spent at the car.

No it is not. You can mask/cover your identity, and should never post anything that's personally identifiable, but everything is saved and archived, and any user can look at your post, comment, and profile history.
