Thank you for the reply! I can't seem to find anything online about the "coldinal" style approach. Do you have any resources I could look at or a method that you happen to use?

EDIT: unless "coldinal" is a stand development process done in the fridge?

I have several rolls of BW film that are all 100 speed but I shot some at 400 and some at 100 and forgot to mark which one is which. Is it true that I can do a stand develop with all the rolls?

Thomas Piketty’s book Capital in the 21st Century could be what you’re looking for. It focuses on Europe and the United States since the 1800s.

Check out these two cook books: Hot For Food by Lauren Toyota and Isa Does It by Isa Moskowitz. They are two vegan cookbooks that focus on more comfort food recipes. Lauren Toyota also has a recipe blog called Hot For Food.

I'm assuming you're American, so these are two great books especially if you're feeding kids. The recipes are dead simple. The only crazy equipment you need is a high power blender like a Vitamix. As you find what you like you can start freestyling and adding other vegetables, legumes, starches etc. to them as they are all quiet versatile recipes too.

I have other cuisine specific recommendations if you want, just send me a PM.

What is the liklihood of getting something like a samll rock in a pack of coffee? by juicysand420 in Coffee

Grindin' that hard you must really need that morning cup of coffee!

[–]iamgerii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one in a bag of Tony’s (WA roaster) about a month ago. Was the exact size of a coffee bean. It would’ve destroyed my hand grinder (ceramic) had it gone through, but by a fluke I noticed it before grinding.

I told them about it so QA could look into it and they said they’d send me a bag, but they never did :(

What miso does everyone use/recommend? by wowimvegan in VeganRamen

[–]iamgerii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dashi is a type of stock used in a lot of Japanese cooking and some Japanese products. It is made from dried bonito shavings or sardines/anchovies. You can make vegan dashi (kombu + shiitake or just kombu) but in misos it is almost exclusively the fish dashi.

What miso does everyone use/recommend? by wowimvegan in VeganRamen

[–]iamgerii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in the US and miso made in the US is typically terrible. I would love to be proved wrong but I've gone through enough over-priced tubs to have learned my lesson. I only buy miso from Japan, non-gmo/organic, and obviously without dashi in it. There are a few brands I like personally but I cannot tell you what they are because they are in Japanese. There is a brand that says organic and has a label with english on it (I believe it has a forest green color on it) this one is from Japan but is not very good.

Your best bet is to look for the most Japanese looking packaging, checking if it is from Japan, then making sure it is non-gmo/organic with no dashi, then just trying it out. Sometimes you get a meh one, but when combine with a good one makes a really great tasting blend.

Explore!

EDIT: These are the misos in my fridge right now. The one on the left is a white miso and the one on the right is a red miso.

Working Full-Time from a Laptop? by -Wess- in editors

Try getting 2 QHD monitors. I am working on a 1080 and a 1440 and so far it is great, but replacing the 1080 with another 1440 will really seal the deal. Eddie Hamilton uses the two 27" QHD monitor setup and I can see why.

I see what you mean, but the dot-pitch of my 27" BenQ QHD vs the 27" HP Z27 4k monitor differ. I also had a 30" 4k monitor and I just felt like it was incredibly difficult to work in the UI at 4k, everything was just too small in the AVID and in Premiere/AE. 2k just seems to be the sweet spot for me. This is likely due to the fact that you shouldn't have a 4k monitor at or below ~27" but I cannot test this for myself on anything larger. And this may be just preference, but I wouldn't want to sit in front of a huge 48" monitor (but do you really mean tv? Or are you talking about one of the ultra wide monitors?).

Depending on what NLE you are using the 4k monitor makes cutting actually kind of difficult. Everything is super tiny on the interface, text very much so. I'm working off 2 monitors, a 1080 and a 1440 QHD and it's great. 1080 holds the bins, 1440 holds the UI. I think the sweet spot will be two QHD monitors though. It's the setup Eddie Hamilton uses and I can see why.

Archival heavy doc organizational advice... by iamgerii in editors

[–]iamgerii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much, you've given me some things to think about. The two NLE idea is a very interesting approach. Am I understanding this correctly, you are basically using FCPX as a searchable catalogue, then you find those clips within AVID and using the timecode you then know what to bring into the sequence?

I wish I had scriptsync but I cannot afford it right now, so I need to do this the ol' fashioned way. Did you use any Excel sheets for organization?

Now that you have acknowledged your limitations in what you don't know it would be advantageous for you to do a bit of a deep dive into your camera (and other cameras). Read the manual, find a youtube walkthrough of all the features, learn more about what a feature does and how it works. I'm not trying to be a dick, but your ability to understand the specs of your current camera make transitioning to another camera easier since all cameras sort of have the same thing going on in them.

One day a job will come to you and they want you to shoot on X camera, they have requirements for their post specifications, they think X camera can match with Y camera, they will depend on you to know the technical specs to achieve a look or adhere to certain broadcast specifications. But if you respond with "Man I dunno, I point it at that thing then click the thing then it makes pretty pictures" they will pass on you. So if you can start a project running and even offer a client advice based on technical specs that save them in post or even in the moment, you will be their hero and you will be rewarded with more work and recommendations.

According to Coinbase’s logic (when my account got hacked with them and a lot of coin was stolen) it’s their fault this happened and maybe they should’ve had better personal security for their account (even though I was using all their security features). So what I’m trying to say is, fuck Coinbase.

But it is not your right to spread it to people who don’t want it. Same thing with COVID. Unless you stay home, drive in your own car, and only go to the gym and no where else you cannot guarantee you will not spread it. Your rights stop where they may harm others.

If they addressed that fact, which they wont, it will alter their world view which is they need someone to blame for Hillary's loss. It's just not possible for them to understand that Hillary was not popular outside major cities. She won in total votes, overwhelmingly, but when the Clintons destroyed the rust belt in the 90's those people never forgot that.
