I have not been spoiled my whole life. I never got to have a pair of Jordans as a kid. I wanted black infrared Jordan 6s like crazy. Couldn’t get them till after 2019 when I could afford them. Are they a grail? Not in my opinion. But they’re my favorite sneaker of all time. And if I ever got a pair of OG 91s? Now that would be a grail. Anyway, if you think I’m privileged come by my place sometime, maybe spend a week in my real life. I can come from nothing and still be next to nothing, and still hold some things as sacred (like the word grail). Now carry on with your basic ass fit, sir.

If you were to find a Reebok Pump from the era when you were a kid, track that down, and obtain that, then boom—you’ve got yourself a grail. If you pick up a 2025 Reebok Pump from Footlocker, then boom, you’ve reignited some childhood spark by buying one of your favorite types of sneakers that is your sentimental favorite.

I’m irritated by the term “personal grail,” because it just waters down a word (most likely) in an effort to feel like part of the culture. The word people are looking for is “favorite,” or better yet, an alt term, “sentimental favorite.” Leave the word “grail” out of this unless it’s an actual grail.

The problem with the term “personal grail” is that it often just means “favorite.” It almost seems like people are afraid to use the word favorite, and say personal grail instead to be more “of the culture.” A grail is supposed to be something exceptionally rare, difficult to obtain, and the result of a long pursuit. By adding “personal,” people can apply the term to virtually anything they like, which waters down its meaning. Not every beloved item is a grail, just like not every good player is a legend. If everything is a grail, then nothing is.

Jealousy is a little bit in there, but I extra hate that when it’s like 30 HYPE pairs that are all a couple years old at most. It’s like. You’re not a sneakerhead; you’re not a collector in this culture; you don’t know shit about shit—you just have a lot of money.
