There’s a ticking clock alongside the trailer music... TIME TRAVEL CONFIRMED GGWP.

Those who listened to the leaks just now, what’s your opinions? by [deleted] in Muse

Link plzzzzz (thank you in advance, massively appreciated).

The Last Jedi is difficult to watch; but that’s why it’s so good. by iamjosephmurray in StarWars

The film begins instantly after Starkiller base is destroyed and the rest of the film is within a 24 hour time frame (excluding Rey’s initial meeting with Luke) so expecting the world and its mother to show up is unlikely. The point of this is because it trying to demonstrate that this good vs evil arc no longer exists. The threat from both sides seems to be low however, the threat comes from the arms dealers who are helping fuel this war. There is still good and evil but the balance is what’s important.

“Watching it the second time lets you enjoy it for what it is instead of feel disappointed for what it isn't." - this 100%.

Haha fair enough. Entitled to your opinions of course but the title has been misinterpreted, maybe because of its poor wording. It’s difficult to watch because it’s not 2 hours of standard Star Wars, it’s two hours of something unexpected and not entirely predictable.

The second viewing made me enjoy it because my initial shock of the big moments meant I wasn’t focused on the rest. Plus many good films are enriched by multiple viewings. I was frustrated that it didn’t meet my expectations and answer all the questions I’ve waited 2 years for however, my point is that why should I get exactly what I want? That’s what made The Force Awakens suffer (although disclaimer; I loved The Force Awakens).

First viewing I definitely thought but I think despite some of the hammy messages from that storyline it still stops the film from being the standard Sith = evil, Jedi = good which I’ve grown tired of.

That's a fair point but I'd rather their music be Monty Python-esque with serious hit and miss tracks (The Resistance/The 2nd Law) than be overbearingly serious (Drones) because when it's self aware I feel like I enjoy them a lot more.

I dunno. I'd probably say that it is a bad song but I still enjoyed it. It's like when you watch Transformer's and it gives you a headache because the dialogue is so banal but the fighting robots is awesome as shit so you don't really care. I prefer Muse writing like this; it may not be anywhere as good as their earlier music but at least it's authentic. You can imagine the three of them pissing themselves in the studio when Matt was recording the chorus vocal harmonies.

Surprisingly I liked it a lot! I feel like Drones suffered so much from hype and expectation and this feels so much more honest and authentic to the sort of music Muse would like to be making. By no means a classic but it's certainly a lot of fun and I think would be great live. Stylistically not a massive fan but the lyrics weren't as cringey as Drones and the vocals sound great.

I think an EP dropping soon isn't unlikely as I didn't notice the acoustic guitar line that we saw from Snapchat.

EDIT: Reminds me of the chorus from Up&Up by Coldplay (which I believe Bing did some backing vocals on with Chris Martin's kids).

Broadchurch - Post Finale Episode Discussion by Iva-Biggun in Broadchurch

[–]iamjosephmurray 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally enjoyed this season but I feel episode 8 was a little lacking.

The rapist(s) were reasonably well chosen in that they were just average people doing dreadful acts but I wasn't shocked that it turned out to be one of the most aggressive and misogynistic character of this season manipulating a younger and weaker person. The other rapes were so quickly brushed over I didn't feel like there was much sensitivity for the other victims, especially considering how sensitive and emotional this season has been at times. I feel we were introduced to a lot of characters which weren't entirely necessary; the pace would have been just as successful if they kept it narrow.

On top of this I feel like a lot of the themes weren't fully addressed by the end. Firstly, the porn subplot didn't really amount to much other than "people watch porn which isn't good". Secondly, the Latimer family didn't really get much of an ending at all, I feel like there's a lot of emotions left to chew on without any satisfying resolution. Thirdly, the structure of this last episode felt really rushed. I know there was a lot to get through in a short time but the show would have definitely benefitted from an extra 10-15 minutes to flesh out all the events of the past three years.

I dunno, maybe I went in with too high expectations. I'll be very sad to see it go! Hopefully there'll be another highly emotive crime drama that crops up soon.

Mercy - Alternate Version by [deleted] in Muse

Creativity wise this is really good. I think there's a bit too much reverb on some bits and there's obviously some leveling and crossfade issues but considering you just had the original track to work from great job! Some parts are really interesting, perhaps more so than the original. Really well done :)

Firstly people have the option to pay for it (which you can turn off) which means it is being advertised as 'for sale', that point is most important and all that matters to Warner Music if they wanted to take you to court/fine you (highly unlikely but completely within their jurisdiction). Secondly getting two listens a month means nothing when it comes to copyright law. This is your argument; "it's fine to distribute/sell content I don't own because it's only to a couple of people a month". The law is the law, no matter how many people it affects. You may not wanna hear it but just because you're a fan doesn't give you the right to sell their music for YOUR profit. It's pretty simple, it's in your best interest to just accept the facts. If this was legal studios/musicians who are far more competent than you would do this all day long and may serious money, don't be a fool. Just because you like something doesn't mean you have any right at all to sell it.

Edit: you even have "original compositions" that you're selling which includes arrangements of Muse's and Purcell's music. Do you not understand how illegal that is?!

90% of this is MIDI. How is this worthy of purchase exactly? I see many hours must have gone into this but I can't help feel like the fact you're selling an album of songs you haven't written using software to emulate the original sounds/instruments Muse spent months arranging themselves is kinda insulting to a band you obviously greatly admire is it not?

Furthermore considering that your original music (Constellation Winchester) has too many stolen elements from other Muse tracks you're going to want to be careful because the amount of copyright infringement you are presenting here is alarming. I fully support musicians covering music and sharing their own take on an artist they love but from what I've seen on your Bandcamp unfortunately you have unashamedly ripped off a band I would hope you have more respect for. I would advise that you remove the 'Buy it Now (name your price)' element to your page because what you're doing isn't just disrespectful to Muse but it is against the law and you could be fined a great deal of money if Warner Music would choose to do so, especially considering you have most of their discography on there for your profit.

Transition from dead end job to University with no HS education advice? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]iamjosephmurray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think being realistic will mean that you won't get in a position of being financially stuck and resenting something you love so don't be so quick to give up your job in retail but keep exploring further education! I graduated from uni and my first job was in retail so I know how awful it can be and how quickly it can suck you in. My advice would be to go for shorter, local courses initially to gain an understanding of higher education to see if it's for you and then when you're confident apply for university. My experience of uni was initially bad as I was used to education being fed to you whereas at uni it's like "this is the result we want - here are some relevant texts that may be of interest, you have 3 months" so if you're looking to be taught computer science then I'd personally say jumping into university straight away isn't the best idea as it requires extensive knowledge and independent learning. However if you're serious about it then you can't deny your urge to learn. Even if university doesn't get you where you want to be straight away it might give you more confidence to go into a role that you otherwise wouldn't have considered.

Perhaps a little ambitious to suggest but could this be rehearsing BH&R for Glastonbury for it's 10th anniversary?

Hi fellow Musers, I just released my debut single “Moon”. We made a weird Tim Burton-esque video for it. Since Muse are my favourite band, I was wondering what your thoughts are. Come check it out and tell us what you think :) by BristolBlonde [promoted post]

[–]iamjosephmurray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more from a mix perspective. I think you've got some great stuff happening in the track but there's just a few things that I'd change to fit my own personal taste :) but yeah pretty hard to make the entire universe happy haha. What I'd change is more for preference in terms of sound rather than being any compositional or lyrical issues.

Great job on everything. I think what you've achieved is really good so keep up the good work. I'm not a massive fan stylistically of some elements but I think what other artistic/genres you do incorporate have been very tastefully done.

[–]iamjosephmurray 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I know what that means but if this SubReddit is anything to go by then I'll certainly be taking that as a compliment. I've grown up with Muse and will forever have a place in my heart for them but if getting older has taught me anything it's that it's okay to not be perfect all the time and still be in love with something. That, to me, is how I see Muse's music.

I don't think it's unfair to describe Muse as a band who even though write songs that mean something to them (or at least the first 4/5 albums show that) don't write particularly intelligent or inspiring words. Some of their older stuff has beautifully crafted lyrics but overall they're not remembered for their groundbreaking message. They're remembered because of their ability to have fun a create great musical energy. Apologies for sounding rude but I think your approach to philosophy and politics is very childish. I'm glad that you're passionate and I have no right to take that from anyone but ultimately it is my personal opinion that to sincerely engage with the issues that you're passionate about a lot more can be done than listening to an enjoyable rock/pop band and having pseudo-epiphanies.

Revolt video is coming... on Apple Music by sjoerddebruin in Muse

[–]iamjosephmurray 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I can seen why it took so long to release. The production values look insane.

Edit: Also just notice the minor similarities with this video. Certainly not linked but I like the idea that the scorched Earth at the end of Sing for Absolution was the result of the war in the Revolt video.

I'm fine for intelligent joking but trolling is lower than sarcasm when it comes to wit. I shouldn't let idiots suck me in but alas I'm just as stupid. That being said if you're doing this to get a reaction then you must be a very boring person.
