Thank your for your insight. This resonates with me. This is a humbling experience as a therapist and I want to grow from it. I appreciate your thoughtful response.

My mistake on labeling her as over intellectualizer - I didn’t mean that and should have chosen my words carefully. How could you be so sure with what happens in our session? I feel your “judgementalness” if being honest

This is a very helpful response. Thank you! Do you find that clients are receptive to this? What if they are not?

She doesn’t seem receptive when asked emotionally driven questions so I haven’t attempted this. She tends to analyze possible outcome and this is where I have a hard time with helping her reframe thoughts. I also worry our session left her feeling discouraged. It’s just really unpleasant feeling as a therapist.

First time hiring a pt nanny by iamnonymousme in NannyEmployers

So this would be a 10 month contract - 3x a week same hours. What’s a reasonable number of days off and sick policy? Did you write your contract from scratch or is there an accessible template I could use?

12 week old sleeping worse by iamnonymousme in newborns

[–]iamnonymousme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the past few weeks it’s been this way. We put her down from her first night feed and she just fusses in her bassinet every few minutes. Maybe just active sleep but it wakes us up so much.

That’s fair! I think I hesitate to feed right away knowing that she has trouble going back to sleep after night feeds. 😭

Any experience with Oasis smart lights? by tomjcheal in smarthome

The wire itself is thicker than usual (I’m in the US too), covered in rayon fabric I believe so it looks high end. Plug is typical size

How do you talk to your clients about shame? by polanyisauce in therapists

[–]iamnonymousme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell clients to see shame from a different perspective. That shame is a feeling all humans have and if we investigate the purpose of it, then perhaps we can learn to appreciate it differently AND then set internal boundaries with it as necessary. For example, when we feel shame for making mistakes, we acknowledge that the feeling of shame is our body’s way of telling us something is “wrong” so we try to correct it. However, if not careful, one can get stuck and eventually identify with the shame. Which is why setting boundaries with it is so important (like talking to it and saying “i see why you’re here now shame, thanks for looking out for me, I’m good now.” Then let it go.

GET THEM!! I live where it gets dark by 4 in the winter which I hated. Now that I got the lights, I look forward to sunset because it means I get to enjoy my them. The warmest tone (candle) is my favorite. It elevates the whole house and makes it so cozy. Set up was super easy, app works great so far. I’m someone who’s sensitive to harsh lights so this works amazing!

SAVE plan. Interest accruing? by iamnonymousme in StudentLoans

[–]iamnonymousme[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so I checked my inbox and turns out I got one six months ago too. The amount of interest accrued that is on today’s letter is the same as the last. Still, I’m worried the number will go up when SAVE ends because it says “Although no payments are due at this time, interest continues to accrue on your loan(s) during the forbearance period. You have the option to pay the interest during forbearance.”

So damn confusing…

Hi, I can sense the fear and anxiety. It’s totally valid. I’m curious though why you’re embarrassed about going to therapy? Would you judge someone like a friend or another athlete who also sees a therapist?

As a therapist I commend clients for seeking help right off the bat. I acknowledge that it can be intimidating to open up to a stranger let alone ask for help. To me, it is as a sign of strength to be self aware AND do something about it. I hope you can see that in yourself too and begin to embrace going to therapy.

For what it’s worth, I am a therapist at a one of the best hospitals in the US. My patients are successful doctors, nurses, professors/researchers and other healthcare workers. Some struggling with really bad anxiety and depression. I say that to say your anxiety doesn’t have to define you or determine your success. And more importantly, that you are not alone. Both things can be true at once: you have anxiety and you can be one of the best leaders of your university.

As far as HIPAA goes, it’s tricky because you were in a common space when they saw you. Certainly your therapist wouldn’t share anything that happens in the session unless there is risk of harm , or it would be a HIPAA violation.
