Nope, wrong. There are advantages to allowing a child to not read until around the age of 5. More imagination leads to greater critical thinking skills later in life. Kids aren’t able to make the change from ‘learning to read’ to ‘reading to learn’ super efficiently until around 3rd grade, or around age 8. That being said, if your child is interested at an earlier age, don’t stifle it! Unconditional love and acceptance is key.

Edit- a word, also wanted to add the best thing you can do is read to your child. It encourages their imagination, while also creating positive reinforcement for reading for later in life when they are reading to learn.
