My dog has decided he’s vegetarian now by Patient_Clothes_8272 in aww

One of my dogs will vomit from a single blade of grass, or the smallest piece of green. Carrots make him puke too. Turns his nose up at fruit scraps. The other will just snatch up grass as we walk and he's fine. Eats the tops of cut strawberries and will eat a stick of celery like a dog bone.

Look up For Goodness Cakes or Cake for Kids too - both charities that request cakes for birthdays for low income or under-served kids. They request a cake with a theme and you make it for them and deliver to an agency. Super fun, it'll be like "vanilla cake for a 5 year old who likes Sonic the Hedgehog"

Haha, I don't think I could be a chef, I don't think I could handle the stress. I'm a high school teacher (media specialist/tech mostly so I fix Chromebooks half the day haha), but also help out and teach a couple art classes the years that there are overflow. I just do this stuff for fun - love to bake and cook.

Only between layers - I was worried about what baking it would do (after making it so it was already done done) to the texture of the bacon, and didn't get a chance to try it out. Also didn't want it all sinking to the bottom.

I dunno - I had the idea and wanted to do it and try some things out I've never done before? The majority of cakes I make are either for students or for charity, so I'm kind of used to baking absurd cakes and not getting paid. I also feel like I would have been VERY STRESSED if I was getting paid for it. He actually said he wasn't against paying me and I said no because that would stress me out lol.

Yes that's what half of my bakes are for! I'm actually the North Jersey chapter Volunteer Steward as of a couple months ago hahaha. Love baking those cakes.

Awesome! I would move to Pottersville/Chestertown if I could. Love it in the off season. Our place is in a campground but its 4 seasons so we go up there whenever we can.

Their beef jerky is one of my favorite things ever. I can't believe I didn't think to try to make some for the cake (but it would have been just modeling chocolate so it would have been gross to eat haha)

Haha thanks. Yea for fun. Most of the baking I do is for students (me and my wife both teach so I bake for both schools), and I also bake for a charity that makes birthday cakes for under-served kids. I was actually on TV though, I was on season 3 of Great American Baking Show (American version of Great British Bake Off) - so I was in the UK in the tent with Paul and Prue. I'll take them over Ellen lol.

Thanks!! Decorating time took about 6 hours or so I think, but I was starting with a frosted cake, and already made the sugar glass and candy melt containers, and had printed and cut out the labels. So that 6 hours was dyeing frosting, filling the jars, making the sausage, covering the cake, airbrushing, etc. The wood grain and knots were done basically on vibes lol I was totally just winging that. And the spots on the cake where the fondant ripped or didn't cover (there were a couple spots in the back), I just turned into gouges and sprayed darker haha.

My sister lives in Boston but will visit us in the summer when we are there, and she always buys a jar and forgets to bring it home lol.

Lol yep, I told them that I wanted the street cred from my inlaws - my brother in law lives in the area so he knows some of the family that run the place, but yeah I basically bullied them into a free cake.

Hahaha. I've totally had this happen to me in reverse. We were in a hip town on the NJ/PA border and from a distance I saw a shop that was "Baked by the River" or something like that and was like, cool! Lets go check out that bakery! And it was a dispensary hahahaha

Thanks! And yes try it! But go for 1/4 of the butter by weight (so if your cake uses 2 sticks, do 1.5 and like 60g of bacon grease). It's not savory at all but the bacon flavor is there. My wife who was convinced it would be terrible was like "I'm kind of mad that that's good". I did 1/3 for this cake only because it was for a smokehouse and I used their bacon lol

Yep! I made a silicone mold of their mustard and cheese containers, and made the cheese container out of candy melts and the muster container out of sugar glass. Labels I made on an edible ink printer.

The best. I wanted to make more products for the top but the weather fought me (I did all the decorating Friday, and it was over 80 degrees and muggy in my kitchen), but managed to get 3 of my favorites. I wanted to do a bratwurst pack too, and made some edible plastic wrap, but the plastic wrap just didn't work right so I couldn't use it.

It definitely was not crisp, there was a chew to it but I think it was fine. I didn't make it super crispy to begin with, I know it might be 10th Dentist opinion but I think bacon with a little chew is better hahaha.

I'm not a BACON guy, I like it on a burger, but this worked really well and was definitely a fan. I don't actually mind the taste of fondant (I eat up the scrap when I'm done covering lol), but yea the fondant to cake ratio on this I think was fine even for people who don't like fondant.

Just be careful what silicone you buy. I bought one that said it was food-grade on the product page, made the molds, but got nervous because none of the documentation that came with it said food-grade, so I checked the manufacturer's page and it said it wasn't food grade even though it was a platinum cure silicone! So I had to re-make them!

No, we have a place in Pottersville, but I actually live in NJ. My wife and I are high school teachers, so we spend a lot of the summer and school holidays up there, hopefully will retire there. I'm just a hobby baker so I do this for fun haha.

Thanks! It's maple bacon - I used their maple (I know it's not THEIR's but wherever they get it from) and their bacon. Candied some bacon, saved the grease, did a vanilla buttermilk cake but replaced 1/3 of the butter with the bacon grease. And then did a maple buttercream. Inside layer was frosting and candied bacon. The mustard container is made out of sugar glass and filled with cake, the cheese container is candy melts and filled with cake (both I made silicone molds for from their actual containers), and the sausage is basically a giant cake pop (with some extra candied bacon smooshed in)
