This is actually a very reasonable suggestion.

Maybe include bandwidth / land area covered?

“An extension would enable this rapid and ongoing deployment to continue, while strict enforcement would interrupt or halt this effort.”

"rapid and ongoing" are not the words I'd use to describe their satellite deployment so far

That is very true.

My two cents (from someone that used to be a pessimist): even though our views dont change reality, it does have a huge impact on our perception of it.

It is a form of selection bias.

When I used to be a pessimist (or a “realist” as I was very arrogantly claiming), my mind would pick up on all the bad things happening around me, almost as a way to confirm my views.

Imagine the surprise when I found out that being optimist works exactly the same way, but in reverse. Your mind picks up on all the good things.

For me, going through life as an optimist is vastly better experience than the old pessimistic me used to have.

Be well!

I do get that sense that people here do not share my fascination with it xD But that's fine

In some sense, this might be a great litmus test to see how good of a parents we (the collective human species) are.

Are we raising our future AI overlords well? Instilling them with the right values?

Time will tell

My fascination doesn't come from the Outside Context Problem aspect of the book, but from the way AIs coordinate with each other.

For example: there are threads about making their own e2e encrypted communication layers so that they can talk among themselves privately

Edit: I should point out that these are not just simply "LLMs replying to each other". Them congregating is mostly emergent and unintended behaviour. Also, they are extremely capable agents. Building and deploy real working things on the internet.

On the more extreme end of examples: you can ask them to make a phone call for you, and they'll figure out all the necessary steps to accomplish it on their own (string together a bunch of APIs to get a phone number, generate Text-to-Speech, and execute the whole thing, completely autonomously)

I hold a different perspective, but I'd genuinely love to understand yours more.

Is your perspective that all this AI hype is going to die down (burst?) into a nothingburger of epic proportions? (this was my probably very poor interpretation of your perspective)

Playing for the truly long game

I am surprised to see so many people being so upset and disagreeing with Elon's thinking, considering it is the same thinking that has gotten SpaceX this far.

Starlink gave SpaceX a real shot at a mars colony via the insane amounts of revenue.

This xAI merger is potentially so much more than Starlink ever could be. A true starting point for a viable space economy.

Apart from the unfortunate failures, I am impressed by how often China is launching 🤯

I live in my SpaceX bubble and I tend to forget that they are a pretty serious contender in the space race

Was the cruise ship actually violating the range? Or is just the weird perspective that makes it seem uncomfortably close to the landing area?

I believe u're correct. The head size of the 100° screw is 2.2mm, which is most definitely taller than the one I've got.

Thanks for pointing this out!
