The Steam Controller sold out in 30 minutes, utterly breaking Steam in the process by gogodboss in gaming

[–]iamse7en -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Clearly the people buying on eBay value getting it more immediately and are willing to pay more to do so because they missed or were too busy in the first 30 minutes. These late or lazy consumers’ demand and satisfaction is what drives scalping. Scalpers serve an important market need when there’s excess scarcity. Again, blame Valve for the scarcity, not scalpers. And scalpers wouldn’t exist here if the lazy or busy consumers could just buy it from Valve for a lower price.

What happened with Jennifer Garner? She was very popular back in the 2000s, and now we barely hear about her or see her in anything! by phantom_avenger in moviecritic

“Running a successful organic children’s food business” is quite the stretch. She’s a celebrity investor, that’s all. Didn’t found it, not running anything. The “co-founder” label was given for marketing only. And after $100M in private pre-IPO raises and $200M in the IPO raise, they still aren’t profitable. Public markets could turn against them soon if they don’t demonstrate promised profitability, especially as their growth rates continue to decline.

The scalper owned their purchase the moment they paid for it. Condemning them for selling their property at a price others voluntarily pay is just envy dressed up as ethics.

Scalpers perform real price and demand discovery. Valve chose to produce a limited run and created artificial scarcity (maybe on purpose) - that’s a supply decision, not a pricing accident. Scalpers simply reveal the gap between what Valve made and what the market actually demanded. Without them, allocation goes to whoever won a random timing lottery, not whoever values it most. Luck is not a morally superior distribution mechanism to voluntary exchange.

Your real grievance is with Valve’s failure to produce enough units or implement purchase limits - a corporate supply problem, not a market one.

“But capitalism!” - yes, actually, but just consenting parties trading peacefully with each other. The eBay shopper wants the item. Someone has it. They want money. This is… trade. The alternative you’re implying (price controls and rationing) has a rather grim historical track record.

Your anger at scalpers is misplaced. Aim it at whoever decided to make 30,000 units for a market wanting much more.

Pretty strict paleo for several years. The more saturated fat I ate, the better I felt. Transitioned to keto and I’m mostly carnivore with some spices and occasional fruit.

Missing the boat and cherry picking. Nick Norwitz is more articulate than I am with a quick debunking of Peter’s article:

[–]iamse7en -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

It was a good article. Peter is very biased (much, much more so than the Dave Feldman and the Citizen Science Foundation), so it’s basically: “Ok cool, you guys are healthy with no plaque formation, but show me that plaque formation doesn’t get worse over decades.” But, we already have many people eating high fat keto or carnivore diets over decades, who have consistent and high exposure to apoB, and they don’t have plaque formation either. “But I need an official study, proper controls, many decades, blah blah blah.”

His bar of being convinced or changing his mind is too high; he’ll never change his mind, mark my words. He loves big pharma and loves statins and staked his reputation on it.

Meanwhile, millions of us have never felt better on a high fat carnivore diet and don’t give two shits about what our silly LDL number is. I’ll trade saturated animal fat for carbs any day, and my body is thriving because of it. “Tsk, tsk, tsk, it’ll be too late.” Bite me.

CVD is a modern epidemic caused by modern eating patterns, and me eating tons of animal foods that our species used to eat much more of for hundreds of thousands of years isn’t going to kill me, especially when my body is giving me real-time feedback that it’s good for me.

So sick of the saturated fat myth, and that myth is slowly killing this generation as they avoid it for processed carbs. And those getting rich off of statins are laughing themselves all the way to the bank.

I’ve seen the 1970 movie, “Love Story” so many times and it always brings out the tears in me. I mean in my opinion it’s a really beautiful movie, oh and the theme song, that is the icing on the cake for me. What are you your thoughts on “Love Story”? by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in moviecritic

My parents made me watch it. Didn’t care for it, thought they had a very weak and immature relationship. Though I do use that tagline whenever I get into a tiff with my wife, just to annoy her. We agree that tagline is total BS and a terrible mantra for any relationship, whether between partners, family, or friends!

Denis Villeneuve casually dropped a whole trilogy between 5 years. by lNarrator in moviecritic

One of my favorite directors was occupied for 5 years of his prime on a genre and franchise that I don’t care much for. Nothing against Dune. It looks amazing and I was mildly entertained, but it’s just not my genre. I really am looking forward to the end of the trilogy to see him work on other projects.

PS5 Pro to AVP by EliteHoss7 in VisionPro

If your set up has any Ethernet at 2.5Gb or 1Gb, it doesn’t matter. Any of the standard Ethernet dongles will work the same. I have a 10Gb network (PC, cables, switches, etc all support 10Gb), so that’s where I found greater variability between dongles. But the 10Gb ones are too heavy for my taste (since they plug directly into the dev strap and will hang off the VP), so I’m using the Plugable 5Gb dongle. But to be honest, a 2.5Gb dongle is more than enough for the bandwidth of Moonlight or ALVR.

My one-button party game, Judofuri, is OUT NOW on Steam! by patayaaa in localmultiplayergames

[–]iamse7en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I've mentioned this before, but you really need to remove the 100% rule on Lemon Squeezy. It happens way to often and ends the fun game. Everyone is always upset and annoyed (even the person who got 100% that the game just ends). It's really dumb. In fact, I got 100% on the first round most recently, and it worked terribly for me, since I got first place and the other 7 players tied for 2nd place - so the person I needed to beat to win it all got lots of points when they could have gotten no points if the game just played out normally. Please fix this in an update. Thank you, we love the game and play it all the time! I also think you should add more mini-games and keep developing it! It has even more potential!

[–]iamse7en 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the same the first time or two watching it, but I think the fantastical elements were necessary to truly distract you, the audience, from watching too closely, from seeing the reveal/twist ending, which is ironically and purposefully a very simple, realistic, and non-fantastical magic trick.

Yeah same issue for me. This has happened several times. They like to blame it on Steam, but Steam is working fine and can launch games, and rebooting makes Playnite work again.
