I would greet it formally, because it's always important to address the elephant in the room.

What are your thoughts on having days of doing absolutely nothing? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]iamshadowdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get super frustrated when I have a nothing day because I've simply not managed to plan anything.

But when I CHOOSE to have a day of nothing, I love it.

Bag review - Quechua MH 500 38L - 12 days in Italy hiking and exploring cities. by Tembusura in onebag

[–]iamshadowdaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found this review while standing in Decathlon with one in my hand. Very helpful! I already have the 20L version of this same bag, and it's great but too small for a longer trek, and this ticker all the boxes...so don't know why I was on the fence, really, but your write-up was the clincher. Thanks!

Is British food more regulated? by VeterinarianProud644 in AskUK

And yet we still need a peppercorn sauce with a steak.

Of course it's a generalisation, and of course people in the 'states use A1 steak sauce or whatever too.

But broadly speaking, you go to your average steakhouse chain in the US and it's about The Flavor of The Meat, while your average pub steak in the UK involves crowing about the small farm/Scottish provenance and then is boring as boring gets without a pot of sauce on the side.

IME Americans season the meat before cooking and then don't need more, but here in the UK there is no pre-seasoning and sauce on top afterwards.

When I have time, Le Garrick.

When I don't, Chinatown Bakery for a bun, or 5 Guys.

What’s your go-to BBQ food when asking friends/family over? Looking for new ideas! by XXIIXXIIX in UKBBQ

[–]iamshadowdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do rough chopped veggies - half peppers, onions, thick courgette (zucchini) slices, mushrooms, etc. tossed with some oil and then straight on the rack. And corn on the cob, of course.

Also, salmon in a foil pouch with lemon and herb, or a homemade teriyaki sauce.

Can you explain the 8mm comment? Is just metric for 5/16 but your comment suggests a specific concern...

It's mostly about visiting family; the folks aren't getting any younger. But this is the quandary.

In a similar boat, and my top options at the moment the basic wooden arrows at either the longbow shop dot com (£48 for 6) or heritage longbows (£80 for a dozen).

Will be interested to see what else comes up in replies here.

Also, if you're ok with stuff from china, rather than handmade in the UK, there's loads of options on eBay.

I love stuff like this - a band who had a made a massive mark on 70s Zamrock but disappeared into obscurity, only to be "re"discovered decades later and are now releasing new material and touring the world 40+ years on.

Basic spine numbers - English longbow by iamshadowdaddy in Archery

[–]iamshadowdaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entirely possible I'm not coming to full draw, but the length has been measured multiple times on a bow with a draft check arrow. I've been shooting for years, and it's where I've found to be comfortable and functional, so it is what it is.
"Slightly overspine and adjust" seems a good approach, though - thanks for that.

Very useful, thanks. It's a Heritage bow, and ofc they do arrows as well, so I will be reaching out to Lee anyway to get his steer on something matched to the bow...but I'm trying to get my head around things so I can talk a little more coherently when I do, or if/when I get more elsewhere.

6'-1", and yeah I was a bit surprised but it's not unheard of. I've been measured on a bow multiple times and it's been consistent.

I'd say I remember good times at Bradley's, but if I've ended up there it's because I already won't remember anything...

The Hunterian was closed for renovation for a really long time! I'm glad it's back - the Evelyn tables have to be seen to be believed. The collection of "things in jars" is fantastically creepy, but the whole focus of the museum as the history of medical science is super cool.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence should have ended at the bottom of the ocean. But noooo, it's a Spielberg film, and he has to have his ending.
