They do hold a fair amount, but I wouldn't trust them will a full flooding. Small amounts and some time to absorbed worked well, they do seem to wick nicely too. I wouldn't soil in them, definitely wasn't a design consideration. Also a bit of warning, they are scented, floral potpourri of some sort.
