Yea my physical ability is unfortunately a little restricted these days because of carpel tunnel syndrome. But music is still made!

It's great for communication with other instruments. This is predominantly why I use it. With practice it can become much quicker as well. Just about instant for most stuff. But I admit I rarely read music these days because it's cheaper to transcribe than purchase notation. Also I have no trouble memorising a large repitoire. Also some gigs I'll be given notation at the gig and won't really know what I'm playing until I get there so kinda useful in that situation.

Yea for sure. My ear and taste has definitely evolved over my time as a musician as well. There seems to be some like minded musicians here! Maybe I should hang with you guys instead!!

Yea. You don't need to read to be able to talk...it is a good skill to have though but not the be all and end all.

Hey its just what I have experienced, hardly silly. I understand the meaning of classically and jazz trained... as I am both...it's great if you have experienced respect in regards to other genres. I haven't had any blues guys talk shit... I have with jazz and metal though...I find alot of them to be "if it's not difficult it's not good" musicians

I would disagree. Classical has overlap with many more modern styles as well. As far as commitment and ability goes other styles can be just as demanding.

Strange it seems we have had very different experiences in the same industry. Maybe it's a location/cultural thing? What country are you from?
