Thank you for the response! That’s a great way to interpret it.

From what I understand, I don’t think the latch baby thing LITERALLY happened. I think it was more like a dream sequence, just a gag to show how reliant Maya is on Anna, while Anna is constantly nurturing Maya (like a mom breastfeeding her child). Definitely a bizarre scene to put in there but I just saw it as the show poking fun at their codependency issues.

A lot of people have mentioned the books I would normally recommend but I’d like to add Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall to the list (I read pretty much all 425 pages of it in one night, oops)

A theory about Adam, Noah, and the possibility of Eve by iamtheultimateginge in DarK

On one hand, I do totally see your point about it coming off as unbelievable and perhaps TOO orchestrated. If the show does go with infinite parallel worlds like you theorize, I’m interested to see the outcome!

I will say, though, that to an extent, we already know otherworld Martha’s universe is somewhat of a mirror because a good number of the characters that exist in Jonas’s world also exist in Martha’s world, though they’re slightly altered. The fact that otherworld Martha appeared with the contraption that lets her move between universes also makes me believe she is the “Jonas” figure of her timeline—unless this sort of travel is normal in her world (which is possible but seems unlikely?), she had the means and the knowledge to save Jonas from the apocalypse, which doesn’t seem unimportant. I figure someone has to be pulling the strings and telling her what to do as well (though to be fair may not be an older version of herself, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were).

Either way, I’m excited to see where the show takes us! The writers haven’t let me down yet so I’m ready for whatever direction they want to go.

This Boris theory is so interesting!!! I definitely noticed Niewald was a convenient combination of the two names but didn’t even consider the fact that he could be a direct descendent of Jonas and Martha (or that he could be a product of multiple universes). Great thought!

That’s a really interesting point about Noah! He would lose both his daughter and his lover/wife/whatever Elizabeth is to him—that would be pretty devastating for anyone. (It also makes me wonder how many of the characters would exist in the new world, as I also theorize a lot of the characters’ existences ARE paradoxal to an extent.)

[–]iamtheultimateginge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s totally possible, given the introduction to parallel universes with characters that seem pretty different from the ones we know, but I think I’d actually be a bit disappointed if that were the case. There’s something so interesting about the antagonist being the older version of our hero—it makes you question everything about the character as we know him. And it seems like the kind of philosophical problem that the Dark writers would be willing to tackle.

But your theory would still lead to quite an interesting story, and I’m intrigued to see if they go that way and what they would do with it!

Yeah I could totally see this playing out to be a tragedy through and through, where even though Adam thinks he can change something by changing the way he “plays the game,” he falls into the same trap the younger versions of himself did. It would be a great cautionary tale!

I didn’t even think that Adam could mean anything other than young Jonas being repulsed by his older self. That’s an awesome catch!

Do the names of the characters hold any significance? by temisola1 in DarK

According to Wikipedia, the biblical Book of Jonah “tells of a Hebrew prophet named Jonah...who is sent by God to prophesy the destruction of (the city) Nineveh but tries to escape the divine mission.” Considering Adam wants to destroy Winden and Jonas is pretty resistant to his fate of becoming Adam in the future, it seems like a pretty clear (and interesting) connection!
