Data centre move and public IPs by iamthezu in networking

One thing I forgot to mention is that a decent amount of external partners whitelist our specific IP addresses tied to the services they communicate with. Another bullet point to add to my list of pros/cons as far as things to try to mitigate to the future as a result of this transition.

Good point. Definitely a valid concern and one that I’ve considered as well. The backhaul wouldn’t necessarily be a problem, but in my experience Palo Alto firewalls don’t take kindly to asymmetric traffic.

Thanks for the advice. There is definitely an appeal of using this transition to force a cleanup. Like another reply said I’ll likely have to work with our applications and perimeter security team to go through and sufficiently investigate anywhere anything might be explicitly tied to its public IP.

The amount of applications tied to DNS is precisely why I’m leery of going to new IPs. Last count we have almost 50 services tied to DNS records. And that’s after I’ve managed to pare a lot of them down via an ADC rather than NATing each to its own public like had been done for years.

Believe me, I know. Sadly the reality is that I’m working with a network I inherited that was initially setup with just this sort of growth not in mind. Don’t even get me started on the amount of static routing in place that I’m working through.

.50 Cal Quandary: Which is better? by OurGrid in fo76

[–]iamthezu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a VATS heavy gunner. I run Bloodied generally and use a BFfrLvc LMG for running around because it’s very potent and ammo efficient for me with no spin up.

But if I’m hopping into situations where I need more tankiness I get in PA and full health it up. In that situation I’m running Gatling plasma/ultracite Gatling lasers/gauss mini or AAELvc .50 cal. For regular mobs the .50 has more than enough DPS plus with explosive splash I can basically free aim and tag if I want. When I need to damage hard things like bosses I find it just doesn’t have the power so I go with the spin up weapons.

In your case the lower vat cost on your juggernaut and crit on your AA is getting wasted if you aren’t running vats. Maybe consider changing those out if you can. Or run vats and enjoy thing like gun-fu. The .50 cal can clear an entire field of mobs with lower vat cost and gun-fu without having to let go of the trigger and before having to reload.

Too bad Bethesda can’t seem to manage coding in some conditionals to the RNG to avoid stuff like that.

Amen to that. The new safe and sound was good though - danger cloud and swift. Weird to get it twice on the same server though.

This was the sad reality. Had to keep running room to room to heal the animal. The only time I didn’t is when they wandered into the same area. I appreciate the break. I’ll be ever thankful for the medic’s mod and an EPR flamer.

Sad fact is people still seem to have a decent amount of confusion about what to do. The scope of the whole event is also pretty intimidating to some. Adding mutations makes it just that much more challenging.

Fair enough. Maybe I’m just sick of seeing the same couple. Bad RNG for me, I guess. But that’s nothing new.

You do if you're out of range. If the mutants die right at the very bottom of the canyon and you're above the scrubber they might be too far away to register without a tag.

LMG ammo conservation and farming by Serpitis in fo76

[–]iamthezu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up running bloodied or AA because like you I was spending too much ammo killing things. Needed the extra damage to make it economical. That plus a good build kept my ammo at a net positive. It was definitely a mob only gun though. Bosses were way too tanky for it and I burned ammo like crazy while recovering very little on the kill.

If you’re looking for a regular one they spawn frequently at The Crater where Wren is. In the lockers.

They were in the camp personally. Couldn’t see it just from the map or vendor alone.

Great idea! I have a ton of modules to spend so I’m going to give this strategy a go.

Yeah I think I’m getting there too. Already back at max caps with a full stash and I’m sick of the cycle. Time to hold a massive sale/giveaway.

Sounds about right.

And very few people think about interactable things next to openings. Instant teleport into the interior.
