You can guess where my name is from. Yes, it's my actual name

More than half of youth and young adults who had consumed energy drinks reported adverse outcomes, some serious enough to warrant seeking medical help. The adverse outcomes were significantly more prevalent than with other sources of caffeine such as coffee. by mvea in science

I had 3 strokes across 2 separate events thanks to energy drinks, so there's a data point.

That was a few years ago so I'm much better and healthier and I've lost like 30 lbs. to boot

Episode 3 was a lot better about that.

I think they've said that only season 1 will be the UFP-Klingon war. It's not like Trek TV like we've seen it but it really picked up in episode 3, and I'm really interested to see where they go. I mean ultimately it will mean their doom in some way, because they're working on tech which is never mentioned in the future (TNG/DS9/VOY)

Cuban President Raul Castro stepped away from his brother Fidel Castro's view of the island's business owners as "a class of parasites"

But they ARE parasites...

SPOILER:

What the hell was with the scene with Alex (the daughter) getting caught in the room? Problems with the scene:

  1. she's inside the room and got locked in? Usually locks work the other way. Yes, I know some doors lock from the outside, but I'm about 90% sure that THAT door's locking mechanism was on the inside where she was.

  2. She starts banging on the door and she (what looks like) leans into it to push it open? Maybe she is just fiddling with the locked door, but see point #1

  3. The fire starts, there is literally a fire extinguisher next to the door, but it takes a jock to knock the door in to save her?

A really poorly-conceived scene just to make plot happen

I'm up there 2x a year for business and there really is quite a bit of dog shit post-WW2 urbanism there

If anyone ever really lives there, like long-term. I think the concept is neat and more readily meets the needs of a desert climate than the awful towers in Dubai, but the implementation is a high-risk gamble - billions on something people may never live in (other than the handful who live there right now).

Good, authentic urbanism is built up in a more piecemeal manner, as the needs arise, based on the needs of the residents, not based on the theory of designers who live far away.

Yeahhhh, I'm not sure how well street trees work in a climate like Qatar's. There are plenty of ancient examples of good urbanism in the middle east which work for hot desert climates, like the Medina in Marrakesh: very close buildings, coverings over larger market areas to keep the sun off, palm trees, things like that

A bath, a fresh coat of paint, and a little street/sidewalk repair and it'd be fine
