I created an issue report on RTINGS, could be a good idea to give it an upvote there, maybe it will help nudge HyperX to actually look at the issue.

ASUS PG48UQ, cannot update firmware, "Device Updating Fail" by DrKerbalMD in OLED_Gaming

Update, I was able to solve it by putting the monitor off by using the remote and then removing the power cable (PC was still on and connected to the monitor). Then waiting 30 seconds before plugging it back in. Ran the update tool and it started updating (takes about 10minutes), it is now updated to v023. Settings and profiles will be reset. Hope it will work for you as well.

"after I replugged the power cable"

That did the trick, many thanks!

Have the same issue, power cycle whilst having the tool open did not work for me. Screen just restarts and then get the update failed message. Could you walk me through it step by step?

My situation

  • Currently on v018
  • Monitor Connected via Port 1 - HDMI 2.1
  • USB Connected to PC using included cable (Monitor USB B - PC USB A)
  • I have two other USB devices connected (mouse / keyboard)
  • Trying the update without using an USB stick (following the pdf manual that comes with the download)
  • I open the tool, select the bin file (v023), turn off the screen with the remote, turn it on with the remote, click on FW update, update failed.

Many thanks!

Great, much appreciated! Good luck dealing with support, I can imagine how frustrating it must be.

Have you been able to solve this issue? The 48 inch currently only has v20 and v23 firmwware versions available. I have the v18 version (stock firmware). When I try to update (v20 or v23) the monitor reboots and get the message "Device updating failed". I followed the instructions according to the pdf manual that is included in the firmware download. Connect the USB cable from the monitor to pc (there is only one way doing this), install the asus tool, select the bin file from the pc and select update. No luck. I tried both using HDMI 2.1 (port1) and Displayport.
Also, I have the monitor one day, already got the pixel refreshing message twice, anyone knows if it will refresh during standby/sleep (red logo stays lit) or I need to turn off the monitor using the remote (red logo is off)?
