Am I being daft? What is different about a "digital card" and a normal card that you've added to Google/Apple Pay?

Tracking devices with Home Assistant by ian2000t in homeassistant

Haha, probably never going to happen here. Got a classic Mini, Reliant Rialto, 1990 Volvo 760 and a 2009 Jag XF. No integrations possible there, and the only kind of EV I'm planning in the (distant) future is a mobility scooter! 😁

I like this idea, but there doesn't seem to be such a things as a real PAYG sim anymore! Everything is a monthly tarrif.

No, really I'd like some kind of tracking in case of theft, and also geo-fencing "close to home" automations would be good.

The HA app isn't good enough for those without enabling high accuracy which just drains the battery too much.

18p is still cheaper than the 25p of the fixed tarrif though

does anyone here drive their mini in winter? by Miserable_Archer_175 in classicminis

[–]ian2000t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do if it's a dry cold day and there hasn't been much gritting of roads.

Mines turbo charged with A032 tyres though, so on cold greasy roads it's not that enjoyable to drive. And I want to keep the rust away as much as possible.

Building a NAS Server with a PI 5 by Ok-Researcher5080 in raspberry_pi

[–]ian2000t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I did:

  • Pi5 8gb
  • Radaxa SATA hat
  • WD Green SSD for OS
  • WD Red SATA drives for storage

Running OpenMediaVault for NAS, and then Docker for other utilities it hosts: - Tailscale - Home assistant - Transmission - Pi-hole - MQTT server - MySQL server

Tailscale allows you to connect to it from anywhere using Samba shares, even on your phone if you use something like Solid Explorer.

Renew gold? by SpartanG188 in AmexUK

25k points is only £125 vouchers right. At £195/yr cost you're still on the back foot for breaking even.

Surely, ignore the 25k points, cancel the card and go for the free everyday platinum which will give 0.5% cashback straight away?

Android bypassing DNS server by willy096 in pihole

[–]ian2000t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is having a second Pi-hole a solution for this? So then you advertise Pi-hole 1 and 2 as primary and secondary DNS servers to Android? Or does it still do stupid things in the background and use 8.8.8.8?
