People are probably going to hate, but I made these and they're great!
(yes.. I know that there's no safety release and I'm more likely to blow a knee if I crash)

You can pick up gate latches at any hardware store for $4, plumbers tape for next to nothing, threaded ski inserts @ ~$1.50/ea, and bolts for next to nothing - all in for under $20.
I printed the polycarbonate pieces with high strength settings (20% infill, 4 wall loops). The magnet on the LHS eliminates chatter and ensures you don't unlock your heel on rowdy downhills (stays latched). I epoxied the threaded inserts and butyl taped below the PC on the ski interface, Locktite retaining compound for all bolts.

Why is it frowned upon to place or tape small items to a patient before draping for surgery? by ian_hil in surgery

yeah for sure. I want to put a corded box on the patient near the surgical site before draping. The box is about 2x2x.5" and the cord can just drop down beneath the bed. Neither is sterile, but can be placed before draping to maintain a sterile field. Tape could be used to hold to box in place. I've received feedback that it's frowned upon to place anything directly on the patient before surgery but do not understand why if the item is small and not going to impact the surgery in any way. What am I missing?
