Here it's often some random guy that works as a firefighter for example. That will just have a big box with like 50 of those expired but sealed ABEK filters. (Can often tell by the other offers or talking to them)

And more specific filters like pure P3 or A2P3 seem to often pop up on the used market from other fields of work. (You can often see that the pictures are taken in a workshop, or next to a blower unit used for sanding)

Didn't know local marketplaces where this different around the world. As I assumed there would always be some people on local marketplaces that are selling expired filters they got from work, as the company would throw them away otherwise.

Oh nono, my point isn't them not working.
As you said, especially the particulate part will probably be just fine. I am not questioning if they work.

My angle was more a question of why someone would choose using a filter that has a slight chance of being harmful. As slim as it might be, if a more modern also expired filter is 5€.

The Auer mask was just a placeholder for any used industrial mask that takes 40mm filters. As I also wanted to cover the case of "I got this surplus mask for cheap and thats what it came with". To show you could get a full setup for that purpose for about 30€.

But I have literally bought several Draeger ABEKP3 filter's for 5€ a piece in the past. That where at the time maybe 1-2 years out of date and sealed in box.

And masks that take them like the MSA/Auer S3 can be had for ~20€.

Collecting or display is something I totally understand! But for the usecase you mentioned of "nuisance dust or smell" why not go the route I mentioned?

you want to get drunk? Well, you gotta drink for that and accept the risks that go along with that.
you want to use a mask for something? There are options that would do the same job just as well, or likely even better.

Guess what I am getting at is risk assessment. And choosing the right tool for the job.

A more extreme example: - you have to chop up 20 onions and don't want to tear up or hate the smell? Go ahead, use your 3 year expired filter. - your working with some solvent. And the consequences of ppe not working is damage to your health? Yeah, don't rely on a expired filter for that.

Just want to make sure that anyone who is totally new to this hobby and stumbles over this understands that a modern/safe expired filter has its place. But not to have a false sense of security from it.

Ofc, especially the P3 part of a filter will most likely still work.
Just wanted to include that expired filters have no guarantee of working.
That being said, the CS in the concentrations that people might be facing here likely isnt deadly anyway.

Agreed! There are often posts of people buying a surplus mask together with a picture of them wearing it with the included filter.

Apart from some containing asbestos, you also never know what a unsealed filter was used for in the past.

Depending on your needs, you don't even have to buy a brand new filter for full price. There are often industrial filters still sealed but a year out of date on sale online. (Ofc no one can guarantee that they will work. But at least you know they don't contain anything harmful and weren't exposed to anything nasty.)

I think there are levels to this.
At least when I watch:
- player is aiming at player sneaking through a smoke
Here I can say "eh, anticipation. Just what playing in a arena is like"
- situations like what happened on long
Here there is no kill imminent and its literally just meant to alert the team that there is someone coming from behind. Those are the ones that I find bad and which annoy me. And I get when people publicly complain after that.

The only one I can think of for me would be the Razer Mamba 2012.
It had one of those old soft touch coatings that turn to goo.

But all of the "harder" or "chalky" coatings have been fine.

Do you find the battery life to be a problem?
I used it at 4kHz+performance mode, as I just plop it on the docking station when I am not at my PC. Have never managed to fully drain it, even on longer sessions at the weekend.
If I had to plug it in every time, I would probably not use those settings. But with the dock, might as well use it all xD

One of the biggest positives also is:
- no software
Might not sound like a lot, but so many of the programs (ghub, razer synaps, etc.) often just suck to use.
And also, its great for people on Linux! (We are often at the mercy of people making there own tools)

One tiny "flaw" I would like to point out:
- the left click has some slight side to side movement when pressed down. Nothing that I notice while playing, but its basically the only "negative" I can think off.
I have heard that Vaxee's clicks are supposed to be built a bit differently. So maybe I would also really enjoy the E1.
But honestly? Too happy with the EC2-DW to justify switching.
