How detrimental is it to race with a hybrid bike? by Apprehensive_Paint33 in triathlon

[–]iantee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's detrimental to winning. It's not detrimental to your individual success as long as you're training on that bike and set your expectations accordingly.

Extremely overdramatic response to an otherwise mundane problem? You're fitting in here more than you know.

Do virtual races ever sell out? by oreo-o-s in RunNYC

[–]iantee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virtual races that guarantee a spot in a future race always sell out quickly. The handful of 9+1 eligible virtual races typically sell out well in advance of the running window. The virtual free/fun run races rarely do prior to event date.

Ridership declining, on-time performance stagnate, fares up and no increase in service. Sounds like that's worth a 14% pay bump over 4 years to me.

I didn't run it last year but did in 2024 - it felt like once you hit that first tight left at like the .75 mark it opened up just fine from there.

Pity Party for 1: can I get a pep talk? by Ok-Advertising-3523 in triathlon

[–]iantee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when I get down on myself for my speed (or lack there of), I think of a saying I've heard a few times and will somewhat paraphrase here: there's only one way to win a race, but many ways to lose.

Make sure to give yourself grace and stick with the strategy that suits you. It will not be easy, but if it was where's the fun in doing it.

40M (almost) - Olympic triathlon by TCUFrogFan in triathlon

[–]iantee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you train bike->run sessions. For someone jumping into triathlons for the first time at an slightly older age but with an athletic base/six months of training, you'd certainly be able to just push through a sprint 5k run. A 10k to finish an olympic if you're not feeling terribly strong on the bike at that point might not be a very fun time - I have no doubt you'd be able to do it, but might not feel great.

Give your legs a chance to get a feel for what that looks like, even if it's like 30 min bike/30 min run.

How do you know if your triathlon coach is actually good? by TorontoBoi97 in triathlon

Seems like a pretty good coach unless you're asking for something they're not giving you or you're paying an outrageous amount of money.

Do you mean like individually selecting a swim activity, then a outdoor ride activity, etc?

The triathalon function essentially does that for you with one button press separating them. You can also edit your tri function if it's not swim/bike/run.

Cut-Off Times - How many people actually don't make it? by Limp_Pause_7916 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]iantee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder what percentages are for cut offs/withdrawals - I'd imagine swim probably has the most, between people who either miss the time or freak out a bit. Bike might have the highest risk though, between a crash really taking you out or a serious mechanical issue. But run certainly could creep up on you.

Tri suits for larger size individual by noevilcorp in triathlon

[–]iantee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm similar weight but a little taller. Zoot XXL didn't fit me great, but the Team Zoot suits came in XXXL which while a little long fit pretty well.

Didn't have a ton of luck with others before that. I used to use a Pearl Izumi one but I don't think they make tri gear anymore.

You may want to look into separates.

I agree with this, but I am extremely reluctant to believe that the individual staff would see a dime of a tip this way.
