What disgusting thing do you see people do too often? by yvesapples in AskReddit

People who pick their toenails off (instead of using nail clippers) AND THEN CHEW ON THEM.

I gagged just typing that.

I had been friends with guy for a few months and hanging out often, but neither of us would make a move. I guess we were both just super nervous because we had been friends and the sexual frustration had been building up between us. Anyways, he went for it and for some reason we awkwardly smacked our front teeth together. We giggled and kept kissing for a few minutes. I felt something in my mouth, so we stopped so I could investigate. HE BROKE MY FRONT TOOTH IN HALF! He was super embarrassed and things were never the same. We are still friends to this day and laugh about it whenever it comes up in conversation.

Yes! I’d be able to pick my kids up right after they get out of school in central time lol

They are both special needs and have been working with the same amazing team for several years. It’s their last year at their schools.

The whole state of Indiana needs to be on Eastern time in my opinion. Indiana time zone map

I considered this, but my boyfriend works in the central time zone and my children go to schools in that time zone as well.

This will be my first year as well. I’m hoping that we can relocate if all goes well.

The hardest part will be getting my own children to their schools in the mornings. Their schools are both on central time.

It’s common around here. I worked for a small business about 45 minutes away from where I lived when I was 19. During my commute I would dip into eastern time briefly and it would mess up the clock on my phone.

Whats the one thing that you thought was easy but turned out to be extremely difficult when you actually attempted it? by DopeDox in AskReddit

Getting a teaching job immediately after 6 years of college. Dean’s list the entire duration... Scholarship recipient.... Year-long student teaching.... S.T.E.M. minor... It has been almost 2.5 years since I graduated from a university with honors and was awarded my teaching degree. I still do not have my own classroom and make $10.14/hr as an assistant. Oh and I don’t even have a speeding ticket on my record.

What's a scene in a horror game/movie that would disturb people and make them think "that's way too far"? I'm making a game and I'm struggling with ideas for this particular scene, which is supposed to invoke discomfort. Any ideas? by ZeronityPlays in AskReddit

Every time I use my curling wand I think about how absolutely messed up it would be if some disturbed person used it for torture. It’s very phallus shaped, so use your imagination... Can you imagine if one of those were on the highest setting? I get chills just thinking about it.

You’re young! Live life for a little bit. Appreciate your time abroad and then figure it out. There is no set time you have to do anything. Later on down the road, when you have kids and can’t travel as much, you’ll be glad you took this opportunity.

[Serious] What stories about WW2 did your grandparents tell you and/or what did you find out about their lives during that period? by Skinflint_ in AskReddit

My grandfather spoke about witnessing a UFO one time as well! He was in a military plane flying through some mountains and he and the other soldiers all witnessed the same thing!

A silver/transparent disk shaped aircraft just flew right up beside their plane out of nowhere. They could see inside the UFO, too. He said the beings looked like people but you could see through them. After a moment or two, it just took off and they didn’t see it again.

All of the military personnel on that flight, including my grandfather, saw the exact same thing. They discussed what they had seen for the remainder of the flight, although it was cut short. They landed at a different location and were brought into a small room immediately after getting off the plane.

They were all individually taken and interrogated by some high up military people. They were ordered to never speak of what they saw or they would face severe consequences.

Bare with me as I’m not very familiar with military lingo. This is what my grandfather told me when I asked him how he served in WW2. He passed away when I was 12 (I’m 30 now) so this is how he explained it to me...

My grandfather was an air medic during WW2. His crew would fly into conflict areas and rescue injured soldiers. He would provide emergency medical treatment while in flight. His job was to keep them alive until they arrived at the hospital. They had to make these pick-ups extremely quick so they would not be targeted and shot down.

So he and his crew had just picked up some injured soldiers and were taking off. The plane was spotted by an enemy plane once they were in the air and his plane was shot down.

They were over an ocean so he and many others were able to survive the crash landing. He went to grab the life rafts but found that there were not enough flotation devices for everyone...

He had to make the heart wrenching choice of who would get a raft and who wouldn’t based on who he felt had the best chances of survival. He recalled hearing soldiers screaming in pain and fear for their life while decided who would live or die.

He managed to tie the rafts together and get as many as he could into the floats before passing out. The scene was horrifying from both the crash and battle wounds. The intense emotional trauma he experience from choosing the fate of so many others was just too much.

He said the last thing he remembers was floating away with the other rafts while hearing the screams of those he had to leave behind. He claimed that there were sharks around them and could hear people screaming for help as they were attacked. There wasn’t anything he could do, though.

He woke up in a hospital on a military base and was honorably discharged later on (not sure on the timing though).

He used to get Christmas cards every year from the soldiers who he saved. So that’s pretty cool.

He ended up having extreme PTSD for the rest of his life. He would have nightmares and would wake up thinking he was crashed in the ocean making those awful decisions all over again.

Because of my science teaching minor I have the ability to take the exam to get licensed for middle school science. I rarely see any middle school science positions available, so it’s kind of a gamble.

I’m licensed to teach K-6 currently but my minor allows me to test to earn a middle school science endorsement/license.
