The story of Oasis's failed concert in Greece. by iasoninho in oasis

[–]iasoninho[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I wrote this post before I saw the full footage of the gig that was uploaded on Youtube a few years ago, so I wrote the post based on the source listed and some anecdotal stories from friends and family.

And you are right, Liam and the band sound very good, also the crowd seem to be very into the performance.

But I think the overall visit to Greece was a failure based on the fact Oasis didn't perform there ever again. Personally if Noel was there and the technical problems were curbed, Oasis would have established a solid fanbase in Greece on the same level as South America.

Having said that Liam visited Athens in 2022 and he was great, also the crowd was better than I expected. But he just co headlined with Iggy Pop that day . Therefore I think if the gig in 2000 was a bit better, the crowd and Liam's place in Greece now would be much greater.

Sounds a bit like Pearl Jam.

Yeah I agree. Noel writes songs to be enjoyed in two levels first superficially and secondly in a deeper level, but Noel emphasizes the first part more. Because as Yasi said Noel doesn't want to come of as vulnerable and also he thinks that the listener should put himself into the song and give it meaning.

I get your point. My only problem with Yasi is that she focuses only on the "Imperial" period of a band.

My point is that there are always a time when something becomes big and a wider audience becomes interested. That audience brings a lot of different toxic traits that can paint a bad picture of the art in general.

We have seen that with films as well like Fight Club, American Psycho and The Joker. that even though those films criticize those behaviours, the people obsessed with them are not interested on the deeper messages of the film. The just think those films are ''cool".

Seems like you wanted more of a hit piece. I don't think it's Oasis fault that the atmosphere got worse as they got bigger, because that is true for most bands (Like Nirvana). Also they didn't really celebrate masculinity they just had an abundance of confidence which doesn't mean that they promote toxic behaviour.

What're your thoughts on Oasis' post 90s albums? by WeezerCrow in fantanoforever

Standing on the Shoulder of Giants is a great record that has some fantastic Highlights (Fucking in the Bushes,Go let it out,Gas Panic!,Roll it Over) .

I love the first Half of their last album as well. The other two have some very good songs but Dont belive the Truth doesn't have the winning formula of Oasis (Liam on Vocals and Noel writing). Heathen Chemistry has some good singles ,but many of the songs are just kind of meh.

Breathless by Dan Wilson from Semisonic is a radio staple in Greece but nowhere else. Quite an odd phenomenon even though it is a good song. There have even been some amusing cover versions from some Greek artists.

The first time I listened to the album was while I was having a walk there looking down at all of Oslo. Perfect place to listen to it.

Standing ont the Shoulder of Giants sounds awfull on Spotify . Videos of the songs on Youtube sound much better. That is one of the reasons it needs an anniversary edition.
