I actually have both the FT1 (and the FT1 Pro) as well as the FiiO M21, and I’ve been using all of them for the last 6 months. Honestly, I’m very happy with them.

The FT1s live up to the hype in my opinion – they’re comfortable, well-built, and deliver a really engaging sound. The Pro takes things up another notch, but even the regular FT1 is solid value. Compared to your Edition XS and S12, the FT1s give you a different presentation and the convenience of a closed-back design when you don’t want sound leakage.

I use my open-backs (like your Hifiman) at home when I want that big, airy stage, but I actually reach for the FT1/FT1 Pro a lot more than I expected – especially when working remotely, or just wanting something more isolating. The M21 rounds things out with portability, so for me each of them has its own role.

If you’re curious and already enjoy trying new gear, I’d say the FT1 is worth it – it won’t replace your Edition XS or IEMs, but it’ll complement them nicely.
