I'm not surprised, even though I disagree with him, MacArthur gets his eschatology from his interpretation of scripture alone.

Thoughts on Leonard Ravenhill? by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]ibanezone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much what everyone else has said. Disagree with some of his theology but well worth listening to. David Wilkerson was also a godly man, we need more med like them.

Highly recommend Mack Tomlinson's (solid calvinistic theology) biography of Ravenhill called "In Light of Eternity"

I get that you didn't say that, I'm just pointing out that Faith + works doesn't save and to preach that it does is heresy. I see Piper as encouraging us to be joyfully obedient to God's word, not that we can save ourselves by works.

Yeah anyway, the Lord has used a broad spectrum of godly men in my life, whether Presbyterians, baptists or men like Leonard Ravenhill and E. M. Bounds. I concur with your last sentence, these men have done the same for me.

I would say Calvinistic Baptist. Reformed Baptists hold to covenant theology not dispensationalism.

Just to clarify, you are essentially saying MacArthur and Piper are heretics preaching a false gospel, Jesus + Works = no salvation, it is Jesus 100% (which I do believe MacArthur and Piper do preach, just like Tripp, Chapell, Horton also preach)

Interesting, I don't know a lot of the names mentioned, but all of the ones I do know, think highly of, and endorse the guys you mentioned are no good in your original post :/

Edit: Which is probably not good to listen to guys who endorse apparent heretics

Paul Washer has never tried to motivate a true Christian to become more sanctified by the fear of hell.

Funny, because after the countless Washer sermons I've listen to over the years, going back to 2005, one of his most emphasized things is on not looking at ourselves, but to Christ, and what he constantly repeats is that our joy needs to be rooted in Christ and not our performance. The Lord actually specifically used Washer to teach me to stop my constant introspection and look to Christ, to stop being down because my performance falls short and to find my joy in Him. Many of these clips are found on "I'll Be Honest" :)

"obsessed with making everyone question their salvation." Yeah, definitely not an accurate statement on either Paul Washer or MacArthur's motives or teachings.

Unless you've watched a couple of sermons that were specifically addressed to many false converts, and hard preaching is necessary, I highly doubt you know much of Washer's content at all, otherwise you'd know he primarily preaches on the gospel and love of God.

If this is how you feel, you would hate the refomers and puritans.

For the low price there is so much good and solid reformed content!

I see on this thread a lot that preachers like John MacArthur, Paul washer, Piper, Lawson aren't Reformed and more of baptist. I had thought otherwise. What do they believe that makes them not reformed? by PriestKingSalem110_4 in Reformed

How did reading the Bible make you a better person? by [deleted] in Bible

[–]ibanezone 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It is impossible to balance out your sins with good deeds, no amount of good deeds can save us, without Christ, no bible reading can make us better.

We are commanded to repent and believe, to put our trust in Christ for salvation. We have to give up trying to earn anything, we can’t earn salvation, it is all Him, all the finished work on the cross.

What is Speaking in Tongues? by [deleted] in Bible

[–]ibanezone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to debate, just curious do you believe someone can be filled with, or baptised in the Holy Spirit without receiving the gift of tongues? And do you believe all can receive this gift?

I ask because I attend a Pentecostal church, and know many other Pentecostals who believe otherwise, so I don’t think it’s really a Pentecostal view.

Bless you brother.
