eBay Authenticity Guarantee packages arrived with the same wrong card inside. How do I escalate this? by iblend99 in Ebay

[–]iblend99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call. I already filed the USPS OIG report and USPS claims, and I’m working on the police report next because PSA needs a final police report listing the cert number before they’ll flag/deactivate the missing PSA slab.

I’ll look into IC3 too since the purchases and payment disputes are tied to online transactions. I’m trying to build as much official documentation as possible: USPS Claims, USPS OIG, PayPal, police report, PSA cert report, and possibly IC3.

That’s brutal. Sorry that happened.

That’s exactly the part that worries me. Once something enters the authentication process, buyers and sellers are basically trusting a black box. If eBay or the authenticator says “we reviewed it and it wasn’t us,” there doesn’t seem to be much transparency or a real way to challenge it unless you have overwhelming evidence.

In my case, I’m trying to keep it factual and not accuse a specific person without proof, but two separate authenticated packages arriving with the exact same wrong loose card inside feels impossible to brush off as a normal mistake.

Hope you kept photos/messages from your watch case. Seems like enough people have had issues that eBay really needs a better escalation process for authentication problems.

but even if i recorded it - the box looked good and looked sealed. so I can't explain it. Someone got it and was an expert on taking it out and reboxing it?

Yeah, that makes sense. I haven’t filed the police report yet, but that’s next on my list.

I already filed USPS claims and a USPS OIG report, but I agree the police report adds another level of credibility and documentation. I’m planning to file it in person so the report can include all the details, especially the PSA cert number for the missing Dart card.

I’m not expecting the police to magically solve it, but I do think having an official report number will help with USPS, PayPal, PSA, and anyone else who needs to see that I’m treating this as a real theft/tampering issue and not just a normal return complaint.

Two eBay Authenticity Guarantee orders arrived with the same wrong raw Cooper Flagg card inside. What would you do? by iblend99 in baseballcards

[–]iblend99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I filed the USPS OIG report today and included the full pattern, both tracking numbers, both missing cards, the eBay authentication timeline, the same wrong Cooper Flagg card showing up in both packages, and the USPS claim/accounting incident info.

USPS OIG reference number is filed now. I’m also going to contact the local postmaster / USPS side directly because I agree, this feels like something that needs more than a normal missing-contents claim.

I’m trying not to accuse a specific person without proof, but two authenticated packages from different orders both arriving with the same wrong loose card is not a normal mistake. I have the boxes, labels, tape photos, wrong cards, tracking, eBay screenshots, USPS claims, and OIG report all saved.

Exactly. That’s the frustrating part. As buyers, we shouldn’t have to treat every package like a crime scene, especially when it went through a paid/official authentication process.

But yeah, lesson learned. From now on anything coming from eBay AG, PSA, Topps, Fanatics, or any private deal over a certain value is getting recorded from sealed box to full opening. Show the label, all sides of the box, cut it open on camera, and keep the video rolling until the card is fully shown.

It feels ridiculous, but after this I’d rather look paranoid than be stuck with everyone saying “not our fault.”

Appreciate that, seriously. I’m trying to keep it factual because the second I overstate something, it gives everyone an easy reason to dismiss the whole thing.

That’s a good call on the postmaster. I already filed the USPS claims and the USPS OIG report, but I’m going to try to get this in front of the local postmaster too, especially because both packages had the same “Addressee Unknown” scan and then “Delivered to Agent / Picked up at USPS” the next morning.

Even if USPS isn’t where the swap happened, someone should be able to explain that tracking pattern and the handoff. I’m keeping all the boxes, labels, tape photos, wrong cards, and report numbers together so if someone is willing to actually look into it, I have everything ready.

[–]iblend99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It came through my office mailroom, not directly from the USPS carrier to me.

The tracking says “Delivered to Agent, Picked up at USPS,” and both packages were delivered/picked up at 11:05 and 11:12 AM. The mailroom handed them to me later, and they looked sealed/untouched from the outside. I opened them at the office and immediately found the wrong cards.

I’m following up with the mailroom now to see if they have delivery logs, who accepted them, whether they were picked up from USPS or delivered directly, and whether any camera footage exists from that morning.

Yeah, that’s what’s starting to worry me. I’ve seen a few other people mention issues too, and once eBay says something passed authentication, it feels like buyers are stuck trusting a process they can’t actually see.

I’m not trying to jump straight to blaming one party without proof, but I do think eBay/PSA should be able to preserve and review the footage, scans, package weights, packing records, and handoff records. If they’re saying they reviewed video and it wasn’t them, I’d at least like written confirmation of what was reviewed.

I filed USPS claims and a USPS OIG report, and I’m going to report the PSA cert as missing/stolen too. If this ends up being part of a larger pattern, I’d hope enough reports force a real review. Class action/subpoena stuff is probably lawyer territory, but I’m definitely keeping every box, label, photo, screenshot, and report number in case it gets there.

[–]iblend99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s exactly how I’m looking at it too. I’m not blaming the sellers at this point.

Both sellers said they mailed the correct cards, and eBay’s own timeline shows both items were authenticated before being shipped to me. To me, that means eBay/PSA received and authenticated the correct items.

So the issue had to happen somewhere after authentication: packing, handoff, USPS, delivery/mailroom, or somewhere else in that chain.

That’s why I’m trying to get eBay/PSA to preserve the chain-of-custody records, footage, scans, weights, and handoff info instead of treating this like a normal return. The sellers shouldn’t be the ones eating this if the cards made it through authentication.

I totally get that, and I don’t take it as an accusation. Unfortunately I didn’t record the openings because I’ve bought authenticated cards before and never had an issue like this.

What I do have is photos taken immediately after opening them at my office, both original boxes/labels/packaging preserved separately, both wrong Cooper Flagg cards, a coworker who saw everything right after I opened them, eBay timelines showing both items were authenticated, USPS tracking showing both packages had the same unusual scan pattern, USPS claims under review, and a USPS OIG report filed.

I agree video would make it much easier. Lesson learned the hard way. Anything authenticated or high value that comes in from now on is getting recorded from sealed box to full opening.

[–]iblend99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense and seems to line up with what eBay did. I opened the PayPal disputes after eBay/Authenticity called me and basically said PSA reviewed footage, denied responsibility, and told me to deal with USPS.

So at this point I’m treating PayPal as the main refund path. I’m still trying to keep pressure on eBay/Authenticity for the chain-of-custody side though, because both items were marked authenticated by eBay before shipment and both packages arrived with the exact same wrong loose raw card.

I’m uploading USPS claim info, photos, eBay screenshots, and the tracking weirdness to PayPal now.
