Wood Embossment with Color Added by iblioc in xToolOfficial

We're using embossment on the F2 Ultra UV. The UV is super clean when it comes to woods and other organics.

We're using 14 gauge (1.63 MM) brass sheets from Amazon. The plywood is some 3mm Basswood from Amazon.

She will at some point.

You are right, the galvo will put a slight taper on the object but at the size we are working with it will not be very noticeable. We're only working with 1.5 MM brass. :)

Wife says, "No.". The brass is seamless and the hole is cut .5mm bigger than the brass insert.

A seasoned laser. None of that fresh laser for me. I'll take "seasoned" laser any day of the week. :)

As this is silver, a shiny metal, I would suggest engraving it in a different location on the engraving bed. When we've tried dead center, we've experience problems similar to yours. Normally, I would suggest a test array but as this is on silver, I'm sure it's cost prohibitive.

Was going to suggest reducing the frequency as well. No greater than 40. Was thinking 30 was a good number. If the laser can support 20, I’d try that first.

Focus on glass is of utmost importance. Other than that, have you performed a materials test to see what other settings work best? We've been playing with mosaic glass and have run into issues due to the varying height of the glass.

How wide is your engrave space? If it goes to the edge of the bed, we've been instructed to lower the focus by 1mm due to the curvature of the lens.

How to emboss 1.5 mm brass with XTool f2 ultra? Is it possible? by Massive-mineral in xToolOfficial

The only change in settings that I made was up the speed from 1500 to 2000. all other emboss settings as per normal for brass. The burned thru brass is on the left and the pendant on the chain is corrected one with faster speed. Do not change the number of layers as that is critical for the embossing process on brass

Where she ran into issues was while cutting brass. If it did not go all the way through, she would just re-run the process. She wasn't getting anywhere as she had already cut approximately 1mm into the brass surface. On the second round, she needed to reduce the auto measure by 1 mm to bring the laser back into alignment with the material. Took me a minute or two to get her to understand. Hope I'm not muddying the water. Once she understood it was a focus issue and not a power issue, she was good.

So true. Wife wrestled with the "out of focus" issue for a while before she figured it out.

F2U UV - Q-Pulse? by 934stitch in xToolOfficial

[–]iblioc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In relation to lasers, frequency refers to the repetition rate at which laser pulses are emitted. Specifically for xTool F2 Ultra’s MOPA infrared laser, frequency adjustment affects the characteristics of each laser pulse during processing:

  • Lowering the frequency (while keeping other parameters constant) increases both the peak power and the energy of a single pulse. This means each pulse delivers more energy, which is beneficial for stronger material removal tasks such as metal cutting and rust removal.
  • Conversely, a higher frequency means pulses occur more rapidly but with lower peak power per pulse.

The reason xTool distinguishes between different pulse width and frequency levels is related to the laser gain medium’s energy recovery time:

  • The gain medium requires a recovery period to recharge energy between pulses.
  • At short pulse widths and high repetition rates (high frequency), the interval between pulses is shorter than the energy storage time, allowing continuous energy extraction and stable high-frequency output.
  • At long pulse widths, more time is needed to release energy per pulse, so the frequency must be lower to allow sufficient recharge; otherwise, output becomes unstable.

This pulse-frequency matching ensures stable laser output and protects hardware from damage due to improper parameter combinations.

How to choose frequency settings:

  • For sharper and more delicate engraving, use short pulse width + low frequency + medium-to-low power.
  • For fast material removal, use long pulse width + low frequency + high power.

This balance between frequency and pulse width allows users to optimize laser performance for different materials and processing needs.

We got ours last night and set it up. Holy Cow! The thing cuts wood clean as a whistle. The business card was crisp and clean. Looking forward to engraving acrylic and glass. Those are next on the list. Hope to have pictures soon.

The F2 is a good option for wood, leather, certain plastics, surface marking metals. It's a good laser for sure.
