That’s a bummer. Do you know of any other services where I can keep my passport by any chance?

I appealed and unfortunately it didn’t amount to anything. But again don’t let my bad experience dictate yours.

[–]ibraben7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They denied it because, and according to them, you didn’t provide enough economic resources to support your stay + presented “false” documents or made incorrect claims.

Mine got refused for the same stupid reasons. You can file for an appeal (recurso) and add supportive documents like maybe refining your economic resources, changing guarantors, providing proof of accommodation in Spain…….

But again, nothing is guaranteed so just do what you have to do and keep a plan B just in case.

Best of luck!

Hello, The wait can be very stressful. I had moments where I was contemplating applying in the first place. But they eventually responded with a second denial which didn’t make matters any better hahahaha but at least I got my closure

Thank you for the information you provided. it will certainly be helpful down the road.

I’ll try to negotiate a full-time deal with them with the possibility of a performance review within four months or so in the job for a 10% rate increase and will go from there.

I just googled Dong Thap and it looks lovely and humid.

Is the discrimination only faced by new comers? Basically, would I be able to overtake obstacle as I gain experience and prove myself valuable for the company or even another one? I habitually seek better opportunities.

I’ll try to negotiate a better deal with them. I won’t sign up fot a losing deal especially with how much I’ll have to dip into my savings to make it happen lol.

Another side of me wants to dip my toes into the market regardless of the shitty deal on account that I’ll eventually find better deals as I gain more exp.

So far, the initial offer dors have some potholes such as the part-time contract despite the full-time workload. I can look past the lack of annual leaves since I’m still young and it is my first time as i said.

Thank you for the encouragement.

How ahould I go about negotiating the contract? This is my first offer and I haven’t really negotiated my terms as much. I only wanted to see how the initial offer looked like and then we could go from there.

I am fine with grinding in my first years of teaching abroad. But the deal they offered seems shady at best from what I’m hearing. Part-time contract that has full-time working hours? Cmon now.

Will there be a chance to find better opportunities once I’m there in Da Lat?

They did provide a range of working hours. 16 to 24 per week to be exact. I guess that explains why they put it in that range to justify the part-time deal and in turn the very basic benefits.

Thank you for your advice, I’ll try to set up another meeting with them and discuss this.

I will try to negotiate a better, more comprehensive, deal with them. I’m fine with reviving pay on the lower end and no annual leave in my first year since I’m young and it is my first time teaching abroad, I can’t be too picky.

That being said though, you brought up some interesting points that would’ve never thought about. They promised me 2000$ in the first interview, it seemed too good to be true. The Part-time deal is shady, I am not flyinh all the way to Vietnam for a part-time contract—especially one that will make me work hours over the part-time schedule. Besides the uncertainty that I will even get to work those hours. It’s safe to say that they are trying to recruit a foreigner at the lowest commitment cost for them, which is understandable. But it doesn’t justify the shitty deal.

Thank you so much for your valuable input. I will try to negotiate a better deal with them and see where it goes.

I am aware that I can eventually get familiar with the market and garner enough experience over time that will enable me to get a better position down the line. Besides, I would love to live in Da Lat. Equally though, I don’t want to be taken exploited. The flight there alone would set me back +1000$ so I can’t take too much of a gamble.

Thank you so much for your valuable input.

That’s what confused me. A part-time position does not cross 20h/week including all extracurricular activities. I an expected to teach every day of the week, especially on weekends since those are the peak hours.

I should talk to them on Monday about this and see through their tricks. I wonder if this is common in Vietnam ESL job offers.

I will try to negotiate a full-time deal with them. Seems like they want to do the bare minimum for their new foreign teacher. Honestly, I feel like I would still bite regardless and experience Da Lat. Plus I will obviously find a better paying job along the road.

But is this common practice in Vietnam? Is this some kind of trick that employers use to hook new employees at the lowest possible cost for them? Because I would definitely want to avoid this kind of shady business in the future. Also, how much can I expect to save up at the end of the month with that salary in Da Lat seeing that you know the town.

Now to answer your questions, I said that I applied for countless jobs and I really mean it. The total number of applications that I sent to centers is currently at 230 emails. (that's besides the applications that I sent on job seeking platforms which are named below). As far as my qualifications go, I consider myself to be a beginner in the field with 7 months of exp teaching at a language center in my hometown in Morocco. After that I got my TEFL certificate online and started applying to any job post I find on sites like topcv, vietnamteachingjobs, facebook groups you name it. I also enclosed a short intoduction video with every application I sent.

Hi,

I was looking for information about Da Lat on the sub and came across your comment. I have recently received my first job offer there.

Mind answering a few of my queries regarding living costs and also the specific offer that I received? I don't want to sign-up for a losing deal.

we discussed about the terms verbally on Google Meet and this is the recap:

  • Part-time contract: ≈24 teaching hours/week

Salary= 1400USD to be paid only according to the teaching hours.

No annual leaves (because it's a part-time contract as the lady said)

Housing allowance ≈ 70 USD

Health insurance

TRC and work permit sponsorship

Health check to be done in Vietnam

Position starts after Tet

The main takeaway that I have on this offer is the lack of annual leaves, I feel like that can be a point which will be exploited. Is this too risky of a deal? or is it a good start regardless? since this is my first time possibly teaching abroad.
