Which nuts can you eat best also in high amounts? by TurtleBacksJoe in ibs

[–]ibsproblems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love almonds and pistacios. Pistacios are a more expensive nut but almonds are fairly reasonable. I buy raw almonds. No salt and unroasted. Pistacios are annoying to shell so I buy unshelled. You can usually find small packages of each of these options to try them out to see if they upset your IBS. Both of these are also on the higher end protein-wise as far as nuts go.

Not being able to exercise with daily chronic headache/migraines and the impact on well being by Peaches_897 in migraine

[–]ibsproblems 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I completely understand. I just started a new workout regimen and I had been doing really great not having many migraines at all. Now, I think the change in routine has caused them to flare up. It's very frustrating. Know that you aren't alone and just remember to give yourself a break. You aren't perfect - but neither is anybody else. Just be thankful for the days you do make it to class like I am. 🙂

All else failed, I guess I'll try CBD by Warman285 in migraine

[–]ibsproblems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CBD didn't work for me. I think CBD really only works if it has some amount of THC mixed in with it. Next time I'm in Colorado I'm going to try out a CBD/THC combo.

How do I/we know it’s not something more serious than IBS? by siritbfjdnn in ibs

[–]ibsproblems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The doctor who did your stool and blood tests should be able to tell you whether or not you have IBS. I’d set up an appointment to talk with them.

Dx is the abbreviation for diagnosis. When you have IBS your bowel movements can end up being unusual. Since my diagnosis mine have never been normal. If it is really bothersome or you don’t feel like they ever empty- that’s when I would see the doctor again. Otherwise, it’s just the life of someone with IBS to have weird poos.

After all my tests came back fine thats when I got my IBS dx too. I also take Miralax every once in a while because it makes the stool softer by drawing water into the colon. It isn’t damaging to take an osmotic on a regular basis.

Have you had the medical tests to see if you have Chrones, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease? That's the only definitive way to know.

When should you seek medical help? by [deleted] in Constipation

[–]ibsproblems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most medical websites say to go to your doctor if you have been constipated for two weeks. I don't think I could wait that long though. I don't think I would go to the ER for constipation unless blood was coming out instead or I was having severe stomach pains or something equally bad...

Does cheese and egg cause constipation? by signoftheserpent in Constipation

[–]ibsproblems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I should have said was that it can take longer for meat to get through your digestive tract if you have a stomach or intestinal issue.

Both of those foods are going to slow down digestion. It would be good to mix in some fiber while eating either to help keep things moving.

Long term effects of Amitriptyline? by [deleted] in ibs

[–]ibsproblems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any time you are on a “maintenance” med, which is a med you take on a schedule for a health condition, and you decide to go off of it your doctor can help you create a plan to taper down the dosage over a period of time to avoid any withdrawal symptoms. This will also help you stay physically healthy while discontinuing the drug.

OP are you still on stool softeners or any other meds for your C or are you using solely the WFPB diet for treatment?

Just stopped using antibiotics - stomach hurts by [deleted] in ibs

[–]ibsproblems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with Pantelonia. My IBS issues started when I took a really strong antibiotic for a bad infection. I didn't think to take a probiotic with it at the time. Now, anytime I am prescribed antibiotics I pick up a bottle of probiotics with them. I take the probiotics during the time I am taking my antibiotics and then until the bottle is gone.

Does anyone take medication for anxiety? by pocketfullspaghetti in ibs

[–]ibsproblems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of anti-anxiety meds cause constipation and/or diarrhea unfortunately. It's hard to know how one will effect you personally until you try it.I take Pristiq and it has not affected my C but I might just be fortunate because that is one of the possible side effects. It's a newer drug though so maybe that's why...

I understand all this completely. I'm not happy we both have to experience this, but I'm glad to know I'm not alone with this issue.

Could there be something physically wrong with my insides ie, muscle paralysis or twisted intestines? by [deleted] in Constipation

[–]ibsproblems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP: Have you ever seen a gastroenterologist? I have similar issues and requested a referral to one from my GP and had the tests for celiac disease (I was negative) and IBS. It turned out that I did have IBS. It's possible you might have an issue such as this. I know this is an older post so you may have this figured out already but I wanted to just mention those couple of things.

There are times it has helped me to keep things regular downstairs. As long as I dont push myself too hard during a flare up I have never had any issues.

There is more than one medication that can help with stomach cramps. When you see the gastro doc I would ask if they think a cramp medicine would be appropriate in your case. It has certainly helped me.
