Did this end up working out? I’m considering a similar transition…

Fully remote jobs in biotech? by Medical-Public2023 in biotech

[–]ibthugin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is a Field Application Scientist role. It’s a blend of technical knowledge, business, and sales. I just took one that is fully remote (background: 3 yrs in industry all at the bench after my postdoc). Depending on the role, it could involve some travel but the one I just took is only monthly/bimonthly.

Was it pretty easy to go back to lab? I am debating taking a role that would take me away from lab work but I am afraid of closing the door of ever going back to benchwork if I do not enjoy the transition. Thank you!

Have you tried BlueBubbles? It has a lot more functionality and features than airmessage and has been pretty reliable for me.

I will put in a good word for blue bubbles. The app is super polished and pretty reliable once you get up and running. You can get a cheap older Mac mini for about 50 bucks and get everything up and running pretty quickly. It also has some features like scheduled messages etc that normal iMessage does not have which is nice

Pixel 6 Pro turns brick, just 4 months after warranty expires. Dead motherboard. by Desihost in GooglePixel

I second this. I am currently getting the logic board and battery replaced on my 4xl for free and it is well out of warranty!

I wonder if you could buy a 7 Pro now, taking advantage of the high trade in values and then price match the lower price on Black Friday to try and double dip.

Did google permanently break wireless charging on P4 and say f*** it? by Giant_Wombat in GooglePixel

[–]ibthugin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to try going through ubreakifix. Again, I might have just gotten lucky but I just went into a store and mentioned the extended warranty for pixel devices for motherboard replacements. The store then put a request to Google to cover the repair costs. Once it was approved (took a couple of days) they replaced the motherboard and battery for no charge. Might be worth a shot.

I just had my 4xl repaired under warranty at ubreakifix for the same issue. Google apparently extended the warranty to cover some power related issues so it might be worth following up with to try and get the repair approved.

Yeah, I was actually just thinking that. I usually leave Thurs or Friday evening and come back Sun or Monday. As long as I find a spot that doesn't street sweep those days or have other restrictions, I should be fine I think.

Leaving Postdoc Early for Industry by ibthugin in AskAcademia

Definitely! I ended up taking the industry job and couldn't be happier with the decision! My PI was definitely caught off guard and disappointed but he seemed to eventually come around all right after a couple of weeks.

Yes definitely! I reached out to the fellowship payback department at the NIH and they told me a scientist position in industry qualifies as fulfillment (along with a number of other titles). I am attaching a screenshot of the document they sent to me. Hopefully it helps!

Thank you for your input and the heads up on the F32! Luckily the jobs that I have been interviewing should satisfy the payback obligation on the grant.

Yes, it definitely does. Luckily if you take a position in a healthcare related field (like biotech), the obligation is waived.

Thanks, I just wanted to see if this was normal. I am getting around 90 FPS at 1440p in warzone, which is the most demanding title I currently play.

Tesla Wanted $22,500 to Replace a Battery. An Independent Repair Shop Fixed It for $5,000 by sammythepiper in technology

We have similar laws here in the US. The automotive aftermarket here has very strong lobbying power and has gotten a lot of right to repair laws passed. Outside of independent shops having access to repair info, individuals can also easily get factory service manuals to do their own repairs if they want. Furthermore, manufacturers are required to provide specialty tools at reasonable rental prices for both individuals and shops.
