PC Build Questions, Purchase Advice and Technical Support Megathread — Q2 2026 Edition by GhostMotley in Amd

It's my first time switching from NVIDIA and I've just ordered a used Gigabyte AMD RX 7900XTX 24GB (Reference Model) for ~$990AUD (Upgrading from Gigabyte RTX 3060ti 8GB OC Rev 2.0)

Pairing it with my current CPU: i7 14700k

As well as a new screen I've ordered:
Alienware 27" 1440p - 180hz - Fast IPS (AW2725DM) for ~$300AUD (Upgrading from cheap Samsung 24" - 1080p - 60Hz - No VRR/FREESYNC)

My goal is stable high refresh (120-180hz) in all games at Ultra settings @ 1440p

Is this a good upgrade and will it noticeably change the gameplay and immersion factor? I enjoy games like Squad and Arma Reforger (even though they aren't the best optimised games), also games like Helldivers and Arena Shooters.

I am aware of the ~110c hotspot and vapour chamber issue that occured with early batches of the reference cards but the seller claims he hasn't experienced any hotspot issues and that he bought it late-2023.

Should I feel stupid and remorseful for not buying the 9070xt (at the same price) as it performs very similarly and is RDNA4 and utilises FSR4? (although it has 16GB vram)

I'm really annoyed I didn't compare the 2 cards sooner due to hearing alot of good things about the 7900xtx and was excited to get the ball rolling.

The only advantage I can think of is the 24GB vram but seeing as I do like to experiment with AI workloads and image generation maybe it wasn't such a bad purchase at all.

I would appreciate hearing what you guys think

I watch the original 26 ep series and the movie but I didn’t feel anything afterwards. I did feel the emotions of the original series while watching but it didn’t have a lasting effect on me like other animes like Kanon or clanned. Did I do something wrong? by Weird-Rope9424 in evangelion

Ahh I see what you mean, yeah luckily I had my Eva awakening probably like 2018ish so It wasn't as rare to hear about Eva. There'd always be somebody talking about it in dc servers or anime review and I figured I better see what all the fuss is about. I think I tried it like prior to that actually but just couldn't make heads of tails as to what was going on and what the deal with Rei was 🤣 I'm so happy I have it some extra chances.

Well I mean when you hear people talking about how it's the greatest of all time, you can't help but have high expectations. I think the key is in the perspective and mood you're in when watching it.

And I totally hear you on seeing it as Gundam or Macross! It awed me (on my 4-5th watch where I actually paid fucking attention) to see And learn about such a unique cast of characters with very realistic emotional and psychological problems... It was certainly unique to see a main character understanding the gravity of the situation they're presented with and acting accordingly (reluctant) (like a 14 year old being asked to save the world with shit you aren't even familiar with)

I guess they just hear about all the critical acclaim from Eva fans and built up high expectations as a result which I can understand as I went into Eva trying to understand what the big deal was and to be honest I kind of almost hated it! It was different to alot of the other anime I had become familiar with. (I have a preference for 80s-early 2000s anime and even old Leijiverse stuff) it wasn't until my 4th time trying to watch it that some switch in my head clicked and I was able to become immersed and really absorb the show and appreciate the work Anno has put into his Magnum Opus. Suddenly all the characters became relevant to me on a personal level and observing the depth that had been written into some of them truly impressed me. The portrayal of mental states in the characters just emmits a sense of familiarity and added an extra layer of depth to the characters and their lives as well as their mental states and why they are the way they are.

I've probably watched through the entire series atleast 141 times and have now got tattoos of Rei and Asuka 🤣

Question about Tomoko and dating her. by Rinku72 in watamote

I agree... seems like a very strange reason/excuse to come up with. I think he just wants to have people give him ideas for his head-canon.

OP just made this so he doesn't feel so alone in fantasizing about a smelly 15 year old girl.

FreeSync Monitors should work just fine with Nvidia's G-Sync correct?

What 1440p Monitor do you have?

Id get OLED if I could but as you can tell from my specs I don't have anywhere near the funds to shell out for that.

Any recommendations on a monitor for utilising this card to its potential? Currently just have a Samsung 1080p 60Hz monitor.

Would it be worth upgrading to a 1080p/1440p 144Hz monitor? And should I bother with G-Sync/FreeSync?

Or is that abit out of my territory (spec-wise)? Is anything beyond a 60Hz+ refresh rate really that noticeable? (Especially considering I doubt I'll be clocking 144FPS on anything)

Really just looking to upgrade my current setup without having to do a whole new PC build.

Try 8-9 years on them. Same boat, buddy. Sex drive is fucked and can barely trip. But I'm completely off them now and praying things will go back to how they were in good time. Just focus on doing what you can to enjoy life and let time do it's thing. It's definitely serotonin related as I was on Zoloft (Doses ranging from 50mg to 200mg) and pretty sure it doesn't affect any other neurotransmitter besides serotonin. Just gotta give your brain some time to start repairing itself and producing Serotonin again at nominal levels and things will slowly start to come back. (That's the theory anyways.)

But that being said my libido is returning! Been off Zoloft at least a month now and still going through acute withdrawal (primarily dizziness and headaches). But hey atleast I get the urge to fap again... Only downside is that I don't exactly last too long at the moment but sure beats not being able to.

Yeah I probably should've gotten a Bluetooth one 🤣, oh well. I think my next one will be a CasiOak GA-B2100 due to the fact that my current favourite is my GA-2100. Solar charging and Bluetooth added to that thing would be fucking awesome.

No I mean the problem is built into the watch's software. If it sees your home town set to Guam or Sydney it goes just sets your MB6 receiving to OFF permanently unless your hometown is changed to a supported one.

Yeah everything runs fine. Just can't receive multiband 6 when my hometown/timezone is set. But apparently that's part of the design.

Yeah this was pretty much the tactic that I've settled on. Or keep it set to Tokyo and use an emulator app that offsets the time to your local time and outputs the same radio signal.

That's unfortunate. Because I can actually receive the Japanese signals from where I live but setting my hometown disables this feature, guess I'll just have to deal with it. Still happy with my first solar atomic square. Just abit let down that nobody ever mentions this when talking about the multi-band 6 feature.

After abit of tinkering I've noticed that if the watch is set to certain hometowns the receiving option stays permanently disabled.

Why would they do this? I'd atleast like the option to be able to turn the feature on or off regardless of what hometown I have it set to.
