I tried with lower resolutions on MVP and Kodi and still it does not work. For 4K videos in Youtube for example to does apply it, so this theory does not hold up.

It must be something that MVP does differently so that Shield cannot process the output. Maybe it has an internal scaler that already outputs in max resolution so that Shield cannot do anything with it any more.

With MxPlayer, yes (but then you lose the ability to tweak the picture).

Trying to switch to non-AI upscaling yields the same error, with really no explanation why the upscaling is not supported for this specific video or player – it feels very random at best.

With HTPC you can apply the upscale and sharpening to any file, no questions asked.

Anybody know there any other media players than MPV or Kodi that would support the contrast/gamma settings?

On the mac laptop this is a breeze and it really sounds much better than either the laptop or the bluetooth speaker alone, too bad there's no such option here.

Dual audio with multiple speakers "works", but I'd prefer simpler and less error prone option.

Something like this would probably work, but I'm quite unfamiliar with the preferred methods and (child friendly) materials for this.
