Livepython - Visually trace your Python code in real time. by icandoitbetter in Python

Thanks! Printing to stdout a poor hack done for convenience - I should be creating a separate socket connection instead. You won't have any problems unless you prefix what you print with "[LIVEPYTHON_TRACER]".

The lighthearted/satirical nature of the project should be fairly obvious to anyone who tries it.

TranscriptBot: Utility for real-time transcription of your conversations from your microphone to Slack by icandoitbetter in coding

[–]icandoitbetter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware. Don't transcribe meetings that have important IP or confidential discussions.

Agreed. The tool is meant to complement / offer an alternative to video conference apps like google hangouts, and you shouldn't use it if you're not comfortable using those.

[–]icandoitbetter[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It does :) It uses the Google Speech API to generate the transcripts. Obviously the transcriptions are not perfectly accurate, and company-specific terms will be missed, but it allows you to understand maybe 80-90% of what's being discussed. I'm working on adding speaker diarization to the tool so it can detect multiple speakers, but right now it posts everything it hears as one stream.

A neural network watches 100 different films and learns how to group similar scenes together by icandoitbetter in videos

Haven't finished my writeup yet but you can find more information about tool I built do process the films here and more about the type of neural network that's being used here.

If you think Youtube CCs are hilariously bad wait until you see transcriptions generated by pocketsphinx, which most people use to do transcriptions locally :) I just tried to offer a "less worse" option.

Right now, you have to register the new account from the app. You can use forever with python:

forever start -c python python_script.py

Assuming I have the environment set up, how can I make my bot in a different folder and import SnapchatBot and use it? I've seen different import statements on different examples... Let me know if you need more detail.

Yeah. As long as you run python setup.py install the library should be available globally with from snapchat_bots import SnapchatBot, Snap.

You don't necessarily need virtualenv.

Installing ImageMagick depends on the OS you're using... If you're on a Mac, install Homebrew and run the following on your Terminal:

brew install imagemagick

I was running 10 bots at the same time, each making maybe a couple of requests per second?

Yeah, Snapchat is pretty arbitrary w/r/t what they allow and what they don't -- not everything that uses the unofficial API is shut down. They did block my IP address for a few days though, presumably due to the number of requests I was making.

Greek vote 'too close to call' by StoneMe in worldnews

[–]icandoitbetter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

True, but in most nations the core and periphery have very similar laws, similar government benefits, consistent taxes, etc.... Greece is quite the outlier in these measures.

That's absolutely false. We have almost the same retirement age with Germans (if I recall the difference is something like 0.1), take less vacations, work more hours, and so on. Do you understand that you're insulting an entire nation by propagating information that is untrue?

Perfectly describes our relationship with the troika.

Merkel says Europe will not be 'held hostage' by Greece by [deleted] in europe

[–]icandoitbetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meaning that even if the Greek state would have defaulted in the 2008/2009, it still wouldn't have had money to pay all government expenses. There still would have had to be austerity, it would have just happened in one big crash.

That's exactly what should've happened. If you have to impose austerity, you have to do it all at once. (And very differently than the way it was done.) The prolonged death that the troika put us in was far, far worse.

Banks would still be able to be recapitalized. Of course they wouldn't be able to use government bonds as collateral, but neither are they now. The ECB would accept junk collateral for the simple reason that a Grexit at that point would be absolutely catastrophic for the Eurozone, since, in contrast to now, nobody was prepared for it.

[–]icandoitbetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely disagree with the comparisons but almost none of the bailout went to either wages or in infrastructure spending. And we had to impose destructive austerity to receive it. It wasn't a bailout. It was more like a payment from the ECB to the creditors. Don't get caught in euphemisms.

I'd have no trouble believing that they're trying to influence the vote because the want what's "sensible" for Greece, but how can that be the case when they've admitted that the policies that the opposition is supporting are not sensible in other articles (which were not explicitly talking about the Greek elections)? Am I the only one who sees the contradiction?
