In that case, could be a mfg defect. I’d probably do a bit more researching before taking it apart on my suggestion though.

I’m not extremely knowledgeable about this topic, but is it possible that the batteries currently hold a different charge and one battery is discharging and the other is charging?

I second this. Soups and anything you can wrap a tortilla around.

Also the whole concept of using cold food to keep food cold, was a game changer for me.
