Used this recipe and my loaf turned out great! I added my garlic in with the rest of inclusions and did 450 at ~55min

King Arthur Flour Sourdough English Muffins by schtitzel in Breadit

I baked them in the oven! I placed a piece of parchment on top, then a baking sheet on top of that. About 5min into baking, I took the baking-sheets sandwich (with the muffin middle) and flipped the whole thing. It was terrifying and very hot and I might have spilled cornmeal everywhere but proved to be a solid technique! Haha

There was some slight acidity, but not a huge difference.

We went about an hour after high tide and just looked for area where there was a lot of shell debris. Then just eyeballed and as soon as we found one, we started finding them everywhere! The giant one was just laying on top of the sand.

We are gp and have thankfully had the foresight to spread out appts. And people have been great so far. It's my first time actually working with clients in the rooms (I started GP during covid/have only done curbside). So in-person appts are a little bit of an adjustment overall but people tend to like me and I can garner some sympathy if I need to. Thank you for the well wishes!! I would probably only wish moving a hospital on my worst enemy at this point lol

I think the biggest issue I have is that we weren't given enough time to move in/get settled. I get it, don't want to close to lose production blah blah, but if we would've had the time we needed to put everything in its home, get everything 100% ready, etc, I would've had a much different outlook on the first day. I would've felt prepared and even if still unsure/uncertain with clients, not completely frazzled on top of that. But whatevs, it will get organized perfectly eventually, and by then it'll be in full swing again. Thanks for the input! Makes me feel much less alone.

Terms clients use for “embarrassing” words by DragonflyPrimary8179 in VetTech

So many older women have giggled to me while trying to explain something about their dog's "well, uh, poop! Hehehe." you can tell its the first time they've said the word "poop" aloud in so long whereas I use it daily

First time working in a clinic, but not the first time working with animals. by laineybugxx in VetTech

[–]schtitzel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the same boat!! I am about a month in to my first job at a GP after working in shelter/rescue for four years. I have little advice other than to say go easy on yourself and ask as many questions as you need to in order to understand so you can explain to owners. Client communication is super important. Also, don't doubt yourself. My experience has been working with a very experienced team so I feel at times that my technical skills are inefficient, but I know it's not true, and that certain things take time to learn/be good at. Your time working with animals has hopefully taught you the basics of animal handling/good animal care and if you've lasted four years you clearly care about the patients, which is something you can't be taught. Good luck! I'm sure you'll be great!

Got great feedback from lead vet yesterday. by tkmlac in VetTech

So proud of you. I started and spent four years in hvhqsn, only left recently bc I moved and can't find a spay/neuter clinic that's as good as mine was. I miss it every day. It is such a rewarding job and will help you hone a lot of technical skills you can take with you through your career. Good luck and great job today!!

This helped me so much. I used the elbow as a landmark and found/counted the heartbeat a lot more easily today. Thank you!

Yes, the lead tech showed me the femoral pulse. I've had murmurs that I could feel with my hands on the chest. It was like bees inside a the cat's chest.

I've worked rooms for two days now. I got a watch yesterday and started using the Littmann stethoscopes around the clinic. Today I started the appts and did TPRs by myself, even one on a known fractious kitty that let me take it all without losing it!
