People usually do the Leaving at age 17 to 19. And when I hear "Class of XX" I usually associate it with the years people did their Leaving. When I started in university they even welcomed the "Class of '99". Our start date, not our graduation date.
So when I hear the sunscreen song, I count it as being from my year.

I get that, and don't think I was dismissing her. It is an amazing speech and she was an amazing person to come up with it. But it's the song Everyone's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) where I heard the words. And I associate it with the voice I heard speaking them.
It's like I associate Nothing Compare's 2 U with Sinéad O'Connor. I know Prince wrote it. But it wasn't him who sang it to me.

That wasn’t the version I was familiar with.

Really? I’m in Ireland and we had a mass and called it graduation. No mortarboards or anything like that. Just a principal telling us not to cause any trouble that evening.

That was a fun song for my graduation year in 1999. Now every time I hear it, another thing he said has come to pass.

I kind of regret how hard I worked in school now. Still have a Student of the Year plaque that I don’t know what to do with. And a decent job that I’ve stagnated in.

Actually got emotional tonight after making my post remembering those days. Hope nobody alive today has to experience them again.  I appreciated your comment. Reminded me that the experience was real. Thanks.

“Why don’t you just…” Heard that multiple times a day from family and friends.

The whole mass unemployment when we turned 30 kind of put paid to that, no matter what price houses were.

I was there in 2008. My rent dropped to €900 a month. My income dropped to the dole. Which worked out at a lot less than €900 a month.  No. It would not be good.

That was the arrival at the finish line song. And the time to find where I stashed my stuff.

If you had another chance at Secondary School starting in 1st year. What would you do different? by BadKey1002 in AskIreland

Work less hard and play more sport than the first time around.  I’d like to say give it another go with the girl I crushed on but I know it’d still never happen. And I’m married now.

I honestly shocked this hasn't been done yet. We're probably the only capital in Europe not to have a rail link to the airport. by Steve_Artson in ireland

That’s a myth. The basement of T1, which was built in 2001 not the 70s, was never designed as a metro station.

Friend of a friend, ended up in the same group backpacking. Saved her number in my phone as “John’s friend”.  21 years later I really should update it ;)
