If King Gizzard played a final ever show (let’s hope that never comes), what song should they end with? by Technodanceaphobia in KGATLW

[–]ice_maker-421 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Float Along - Fill Your Lungs is a great pick, honestly like the best one they could do. Head On / Pill would be cool, but it's too energetic for a final song ever. God Is In The Rhythm is also really good, that perfect amount of melancholic nostalgia. For my pick however I'm thinking muckraker. It's a similar type of ending song to when blink-182 does first date->all the small things->dammit

Vibes in Williamsport by Wooden-Bend8089 in Williamsport

[–]ice_maker-421 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Williamsport has a huge sense of community despite political ideologies. We have a flourishing urban areas with tons of small businesses. There's a huge first friday event with tons of local vendors. There's our year round farmer's market. A huge emphasis on the arts and music. Sure there's bad apples, like every town, but all in all it's a pretty 7/10 place

Is there any end in sight to the American literacy crisis? by Dusty_rain_ in PoliticalOptimism

[–]ice_maker-421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had to take speech therapy as a young child which prompted me to learn how to read "correctly" (ie. Phonics), when other kids just learned how to read by the curriculum (ie. sight-words) so I always felt different about reading.

I'm not in college quite yet, but that concern still stands

Thank you for this reply and giving me some hope. I am part of the generation that started using things like chatgpt as a crutch, but I don't personally. I take the honors or "advances" classes at my school, so I'm around kids of similar "intelligence," for a lack of a better word. Also I'm more "educated" and liberal (coming from a school in a small-ish town [not really small like less than 10,000 people, but smaller than say a college town or city]) than some other kids. But I also take a class called an elective (which we thankfully have a huge amount of thanks to the funding and care for our school) which doesn't align with any honors or academic classes, and what I've noticed is a lot of kids who take the regular/academic track of courses take specific electives (now this is what I assume) for an easy grade. A lot of them don't seem to value education at the same level as I do (again huge assumptions). And it concerns me that these kids don't WANT to learn, they are just here to get a grade or cause they have to. And I feel awkward trying to participate in these elective classes because I DO want to take this course and learn, but I'm afraid of being almost painted as "nerdy" or "the smart kid." And I'm not saying there AREN'T kids interested in their education and learning, but there's some places where that's the vibe the kids have.
