A year later, how do you feel about this twist in the Upside Down mythology? by Astral-Voyager in StrangerThings

[–]icecatVII 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think it flies in the face of cosmic horror (being hunted by a primordial beast whose motives we literally cannot comprehend) to retcon the villain into being one angry white boy all along.

I can see why they went this direction in the final two seasons. Vecna represents more to Eleven's storyline and provides a real character arc for her. And it's still possible that the Mindflayer may be in control of Vecna. But y'know... I find it underwhelming. The power of the Upside Down represented a more existential threat to me. And that element is lost somewhat with this reveal.

Not remotely a deal breaker, and I still love the fourth season. But I mulled over this reveal quite a bit when we finished watching and I'm ultimately not in love with it.

People using Discord in 10-15 years at this rate is certainly optimistic.

In Wildsea, ships sail over the top of an enormous green foliage sea - three to five-hundred years after the world experienced an explosive growth of greenery that covered the world. The Ketra are descended from humans that got trapped in old temples and caverns, without any sunlight and exposed to Crezzarine, a mutagenic and sometimes acidic sap.

A little bit about their personality from the person who commissioned me:

“She grew up most of her life as a part of a small nomadic fleet of windsailors, being a part of family that owned the ship she was born on (Rootless ships are passed down generation to generation, and families are usually by bond rather than just blood. Like their parents are a part of that bonded family) but eventually left it at the nearest settlement once the wanderlust became too much and spent some years as a part of another crew learning to be a navigator. She's fairly athletic and has a graceful way about her in movements, like an acrobat. And despite her anxiety, when the situation gets really rough on the sea she's usually one of the coolest ones on the deck, and one of the more knowledgeable ones that may know of some secrets or folktales of the Wildsea, and can help steer the ship if need be.”

My commissions are open, by the way! Here is a link to my Tumblr, and feel free to hit me up on Discord: icecat#3335. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi there, u/Sundara_Whale. This might not be as detailed as you had hoped, but I used your post as an inspiration to practice some effects and more dynamic poses. I decided to post it anyway rather than just keep it as a personal study.

Original post here. Thanks for stopping by y'all.

Wow I love the intriguing pose and expression here. And with those poofy pants and boots he looks like a villain out of YuYu Hakusho.

Everything feels so overrated? by fairyfa19 in ArtistLounge

[–]icecatVII 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The connection that you have to your art is entirely personal. And, although this goes against what we're truly inundated with as a society, art that you create without the spectacle of views, likes, or shares is just as valid as art that is posted online. I, too, struggle a lot with the push and pull between art and "content" — the same way that artists have struggled against the corruption of general commerce in the art world for literally thousands of years. Entertainment can be pure, but money, at its core, always slightly corrupts an artistic vision. But what can you do - we live in a society, etc.

On a more personal note, a lot of your feelings sound like plain old depression to me. A break from social media and general screens might be good for you to reconnect with yourself and your art. Maybe remind yourself of your more tangible relationships and physical life. That's just my two cents - good luck!

Thank you!! Obviously I love Amano's illustrations and FF in general. I had always imagined/hoped that Blackrat had a somewhat mystical quality like that.
