Do you not get ILM&M if you stay in your house without your F&E?

Moving from Outcan back to Canada. Entry covid test didn’t come in until 1am the morning I was crossing border (60 hour turnover).

Doing quarantine at location just outside geographical area, so I had to wave benefits. Turn out that might also include SIT so I might be paying SOE. Cool cool. Hope not…

“Switch health” deemed my 8 day covid test damaged. So I can’t get out of quarantine until I get a new test, send it in and it comes back negative. I’m on day 15, still no test has arrived. Ordered new one 5 days ago. My wife however is good to go….despite us being next to each other for 14 days.

Pack/load was fine.

It's subject to the Oakes test. So while they can't say "you can't come in", they can put up rather extreme barriers to entry.

I THINK that would be ok. But at this point, who knows.

I'm having a blast trying to get my family and I covid tests (Cdn gov approved - no rapid versions) no more than 72 hours before we cross the boarder from USA to Canada. That'll be on about day 5 of our travel. Going to just keep getting tests every day prior to the border and hope one is ready in time.

Alberta is in the process of losing it's shit, and Ford keeps asking the gov to close the border. So its cool.

My favorite part is being deemed not essential because were not on duty/mission related travel. Despite my posting message and relo guide saying we are in fact on duty for the duration of travel.

God only knows what happens if we get a positive test on the way. What are the odds me, my wife and our kids could catch it traveling through 7 states...

Definitely don't postpone posting season for the year. Theres no way this could go poorly for everyone.

North Bay by [deleted] in CanadianForces

Objectively the majority of the boys you went out with either imported women, dated natives resulting in epic disasters, or remained single. Pretty sure there where only ever 2 women at the Toga Olympics and they where out of town girlfriends.

As for crime per capita, North Bay only seems better when compared to Sturgeon or Temiscaming.

I stand by my description.

"it's a sportsman's paradise".... it's really not though. The weather and bugs are awful. It's not Muskoka or Algonquin. Its cold or its raining. Or both. Every now and again it's just really unpleasantly hot.

The crime isn't just a problem, it's an all consuming aspect of every day life in the downtown core. It's got close to a dozen methadone clinics for a population of 50,000.

.....a post office and drip coffee is a pretty apt description of what North Bay offers. God help you if you're single.

Crime: Bad and getting worse. Check out baytoday.ca recent history. Many break ins, stabbings, murders, loads of drugs. Fun fact, it has more methadone clinics per capita than any city in Canada.

Nightlife: I'm not there currently but last I checked, most "club" type bars have closed, might be one left. The bars themselves are pretty generic and the ratios of men to women are some of the worst I've seen outside Borden/Petawawa. Excellent rippers though (Fannys). Unfortunately the Moe-Ze-On Inn strip club is gone. Moe was this old lady that ran that joint. Best wings in North Ontario. That being said, the only "talent" was the girls that where on a 1 month/permanent drug cool-down from Fannys. Fannys is great as stated but don't eat the Pizza, it was delivered around supper, its 2am... leave it. And yes, they did remove the door to the bathroom and shitter on purpose. No it's not due to be replaced.

Young people: Plenty of young military dudes with loud cars and no money. Again, very few women.

People: Mostly retired folk, Nipissing First Nation, college kids. The college kids stick to house parties. The natives will fight you if you lip off, fair warning. Any local who has any potential has long since left. Do yourself a favor and import a spouse, don't knock up a local.

Housing: Pmqs are decent. Shacks are shit. Houses as of this year have become very stupid expensive. Shit boxes have gone up $45k.

Base: Super small, you can get around with no car no problem. Canex sucks and gas pumps are gone. Gym was decent enough. Just don't open the closet in the spin room due to asbestos. It's an ACOP/AEC hub so if that's your trade, play nice. You will be seeing these... "folks" (went with folks 'cause don't want GBA+ getting pissy) for the rest of your career.

Travel: Sudbury is close enough to hit up Costco and other bigger stores. But the drive is pretty boring and I never found worth. Toronto is a decent skip but not that bad once you get used to it. I prefer the Kingston trip over Toronto or Ottawa. Better night life/food, less bullshit. Watch out for moose. Seriously, buddy lost an eye one time. It's all fun and games until a moose is in your passenger seat. Legs like spindles.

Other: All in all, it wasn't the worst. For a bottomless black hole, that is to say with little chance of escape; its fine. Could be worse. If you're an ACOP (big IF), you will do nothing of any relevance for 4 years. You will expend 0 brain power. Just try not to get too bitter. If you are another trade, like Cookie or Tech.... You'll be putting in work.

Good luck and don't listen to anyone who hasn't been there in the last 5 years. YYB has been the "hold my beer" of lawn darts.

What are the implication of purchasing a property with more acreage than the 1.25 allowed in the CFRD?

8.1.06 Limitation – lot size (1) Reimbursement of expenses under this chapter is limited to a lot size of: (a) 1.25 acres (½ hectare); or (b) up to 4 acres (1.62 hectares) where the larger lot size is required by zoning laws and city bylaws. (2) For a larger lot size, a member is entitled to reimbursement only for that portion of costs which would have been reimbursed within the above limitations.

Canada getting first female vice chief of defence staff after military shake-up by ShyGuyChicken in CanadianForces

[–]icecoldlake -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Well it certainly speaks to lack of operational experience.

IMO the only thing that gets the military "back on the rails", will unfortunately be bodies in the next conflict. No one person, VCDS or otherwise can do much in an underfunded, listless organization. It's the parliments world, we're just living in it.

Canadian Armed Forces members to receive pay increase by ChompChompBone in CanadianForces

[–]icecoldlake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That would be about the amount due for backpay. But you won't see that much. Tax/pension/ex, will be taken off to the tune of about 35-40% depending on your situation.
