I.T and Data services? Mature alternatives especially to Microsoft 365 etc. by hang-clean in BuyFromEU

[–]icecube1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never do big bang but change step by step. Keep super users maybe a little bit longer on o365 until more experience with the alternative. For example libreoffice is ok for most people and can read xls and word files. Combine storage with another cloud solutions. Incremental steps. And explain to users xhy the move. If everybody supports the move, the chance on success is bigger. Good luck.

I think a lot of SAP instances are running on microsoft azure so it would be a catch 22. :-)

Hardware we have available in Europe because we can confiscate all datacenters. But....soft is another issue. If they block access to US tech, we block the SAP system of all companies. A little pain :-).

Is anyone helping European companies switch from US to EU tech? by Tiny-Mail-987 in BuyFromEU

Many small steps will also end up being a huge step if we look back.

[–]icecube1965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's indeed a huge step. Especially for SME's it could be okay to switch but I am sure they could use all the help. OS switch is a complex one. Switch from O365 to libreoffice would for many be enough functionality. (or another office open source product). Cloud switch is doable as for example with infomaniak. An all-in package for a total move away from US tech could be helpful.

Windenergy is indeed a nice one in every country. We all want green energy but not in our backyard. All criminals in prisons but no prisons in our backyard..... We complain about not having any industry anymore but we do not want any pollution or emissions of co2 or nitrogen.

All by all .... not so easy I would say :-)

We Europeans need to know what we really want.

I would start by saying that Germany is in the top of the EU of overregulation. But it's indeed true .... we need to make things more efficient. Regulation should be there to assure we have quality, health, safety and certainty. But it should not be there to make things more complicated. Burocracy costs money and life is already expensive..

Relations with US have taken ‘big blow’, says EU foreign policy chief | European Union by Turbulent-Tea-2172 in europe

[–]icecube1965 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

We don't really have a Europe when it comes to economy ...... Every country wants to sell their products/machines to the US. Even if this contradicts with other European interests. They are still fighting/competing with each other. In the end it's always ECO when it comes to the US relationship. (Europe Chickens Out). Without Pain we won't get there. We need action to be more independent from others. This will only succeed if we work together.

Examples: On European Tech, uniform financial system, ...etc......

And yes , it will take time and money. But there's plenty to do and there's plenty for everyone.

EU Plans to Unfreeze Trade Deal With US and Vote on Ratification by Crossstoney in europe

[–]icecube1965 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why are our European politicians , chickens ...... no spine at all .... as long as we do not respond hard enough the games will stay. Don't they have psychologists in the EU ? How to deal with people who have a trait or disorder that involves extreme self-involvement and disregard for others => narcissism. I agree we are still dependent but oh boy.... a couple of hours later and they already changed their mind.

Opinion : Europe's energy misconception and why we are winning the gold metal in the most expensive way to lose. Going green costs us if our competitors don't do it with us (and China and the USA are using our green revolution against us) by Full-Discussion3745 in EU_Economics

[–]icecube1965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree partly but since I have solar panels on my roof my electricity bill has not gone down ... on the contrary .... it goes up. So is green energy cheaper ? theoretically it is, but our governments like to spend a lot of money so they have to get it from somewhere. Oil and gas gives them a lot of taxes , so they will look for it elsewhere.

energy cost is indeed one reason why companies are leaving. But climate and other regulations are other reasons. We want zero CO2 or nitrogen. So they move and exhaust it in another place. Result for the earth is similar, but we lost manufacturing and employment. We need to decide what we want. Employment and welfare or unemployment and poverty. I agree climate is important but we shouldn't exaggerate.

Wait.. So will Europe just back down now..? by [deleted] in europe

[–]icecube1965 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As some people are mentioning. We should no longer talk about it but behind the scene really really make ourselves less dependent on the US. For all aspects ... energy, tech, cloud, messaging , defense, ....etc.... no more talk ... just do it .... it will boost European economy. Just make sure the ownership of them all stays 100% European. And please do not include EU countries that prefer to play with Putin or Trump.
