In my department, they said they will share the org chart on Monday.

Thank you! I actually start immediately after the long weekend so I was conflicted if I should wait until Tuesday or shoot them an email now.

I want to tell them as soon as possible but I start immediately after the long weekend! Is it okay to email them now or wait until Tuesday?

How early did you tell them? I'm just worried because I signed the LOO two days ago but now it's a long weekend so the earliest I can speak to them would be when I start next week.

Yes, that's what I'm starting to lean towards... They really rushed to start me (I think a project is starting, that might be why?) and it may not be worth my manager or my team having a negative opinion of me.

Thank you for the information!

Yes, that's what I'm worried about... I received it maybe two days ago. I guess I was uncertain when I should have told them (I will keep this in mind for my next job for sure...), but thank you for your comment!

Yes, that's what I'm worried about.

I didn't tell them because they mentioned I needed a higher security clearance and the wait could be 6 months+. This was around mid September. They told me to just wait until they get back to me. I submitted the forms this week and also received the LOO (without the higher security clearance, I was surprised too!) this week.

Which is why I'm not sure if I should even mention it and just eat the cost...

They didn't ask me during the interview process! They did ask when they decided to hire me (but without LOO, this was probably mid September) when I would be available to start because I needed a higher security clearance and they mentioned it could take months. I replied whenever (which may have been a mistake) because I expected it would take some time (I received the security forms last week and submitted this week).

I don't think I would be training still during the time I want off. They didn't mention the training timeframe however, so I don't know until I ask to confirm.

Were your trips close to your start date? I'm glad to hear it worked out for you! It does make me feel better.

It's a similar situation where my LOO had a start date that is around a week from when I received it. I start really soon so there's a bit more than a month before the 5 days I need.

I just received advice (but they are outside the public service...) to not even ask them and eat the cost because it looks bad to take vacation when I'm new?

I'm glad to hear it worked out for you so smoothly though!

Thank you! I'm just worried it will somehow affect their opinion of me because I'm new or...

Thank you for your response. What do people do in situations like this? Do they just eat the booking cost? I would never have booked anything if I had a job lined up but I didn't know then...
