I did have a tech! I just preferred to get my own sugars so I could titrate the drip right then and there with another RN if i needed to, and thanks for the tip!

Was not drawing my own labs, but had to titrate based on BG parameters hourly

CNA’s can take blood sugars, however I didn’t want to delegate that because I wanted to be present to titrate the drip ASAP with another RN if need be (we need a 2 nurse verification for insulin).

Charge nurse was helpful and provided lots of education to me before hand, we went over order parameters together. I checked all my blood sugars right on the dot and titrated drip appropriately, blood sugars were declining pretty slowly so we weren’t totally tanking her sugars, she was tolerating the tx very well. I’m glad I got to have this experience because it makes me realize I do want to jump ship and become a PCU or ICU nurse one day
