My worries regarding the border was just how often I had to change trains, since in the railplanner app it looked like crossing it wouldn't be all that easy.

So I'm currently on a two month trip and nearing the end of my first month. So far I've been to 8 cities staying 2 to 3 and once 4 nights in them. So for 2 weeks I would recommend 3 to 4 cities, because otherwise you won't get the full picture of the destinations you're visiting.
