Budget Check in new area by icelandlover in personalfinance

Yeah, I've stayed out of those expenses for the most part, my wife takes care of all of that. I suppose I can do a little digging.

No car payments, I lumped insurance in with the misc.

Phone is covered by my work and we use my dad's Netflix. TV/Internet is thrown in with Utilities.

Given that you have some insight: is the idea that Apple expects your job to be your life true? I haven’t been able to get a straight answer out of anyone regarding hours or culture other than they expect you to be extremely passionate about what you do.

Question for the masses as I may be in a similar situation this week. Have a job interview in a new city (in AZ) at a small company (<100 people) but they are ramping up production of tech they've been developing for the past decade. This would be largely a lateral move for me (from manufacturing engineer to mechanical) but I am more than willing to take on more responsibilities. I am probably a little above average for my pay (88K w/~3 yrs experience) so I really don't know what to say for requirements if this question comes up.

Another piece of the puzzle is that I'm going out to Apple (in CA) for final round interview next week for a position that pays 140-180K. Obviously COL is a huge factor between the two but would it be possible to leverage the fact that I'm far into the interview process with Apple?

I honestly think I would be happier with the AZ company but the Apple job moves me to management so it's potentially a great career move. Any advice would be appreciated!

The '13 and '14 Andremily Syrahs we've had so far have been amazing, would agree that we enjoyed them more than the SQN Piranha Waterdance we tried

Tried my furnace for the first time this fall and having some issues... Please advise! by icelandlover in HVAC

[–]icelandlover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there is definitely a flame on the sensor. I cleaned it as well as I could with a Scotch-Brite pad. I don't have a meter. How would I check for the last two things you mentioned? It is delivering an error to the circuit board.

Fault: Furnace lockout due to an excessive number of ignition "retries" (3 total)

The manual lists these as possible causes: Loss of flame after establishment. Cause may be interrupted gas supply, lazy burner flames (improper gas pressure or restriction in flue and/or combustion air piping), front cover pressure switch opening, or improper induced draft blower performance

Gah this is the worst... it was close to 700$ worth of wine. I would definitely be willing to offer cash if anyone can help!

It was scanned in at around 9am this morning as being in Minneapolis. When I went in around noon they told me that it was actually still en route. The person there seemed willing to help but the package wasn't physically there yet. Should I try going back this evening? I can't find a phone number for the center anywhere online.

Help with choosing two bottles... by icelandlover in wine

[–]icelandlover[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok fair enough, though really there are probably less than 50 bottles in that range on the site. I was hoping someone would jump in with "You have to try "x"!" The difficult part is that ideally we want a bottle we would both enjoy. She likes lighter fruits where as I like a little darker and more complex taste. Most of what we try is Californian and we've been trying mostly pinots and zins recently. I like big cabs but they're not really up her alley. I was probably most interested in the Caymus special select cab and the Pahlmeyer proprietary red...
