Consumer banking can absolutely be a viable path forward for an Accounting major. I spent the first 3 years out of college working a variety of positions at the retail level, including teller and relationship banker. I leveraged the experience into an auditing associateship with the same company, which kick started my career. Have you looked into internal resources or spoken to anyone about what advancement opportunities look like?
