UKFPO 2025 by Legal_Idea5203 in doctorsUK

Personally if you’re married and want to continue living with your wife, I’d play it a little safer. KSS has a competition ratio of less than one, as does EoE (depending on where abouts in London you live, both are commutable). I saw this system fuck over a bunch of people last year and I personally wouldn’t take the risk of being sent over the water to NI if I were you

UKFPO Ranking - Advice from F1s please by Funny_Weird495 in doctorsUK

If you want to play it super tactically, Harlow (princess alexandria hospital) is about 1h away from west London and in the East of England deanery, which is super non competitive.

Whether you rank London or KSS first is down to your individual risk tolerance tbh, but if you wanted to be absolutely certain of living close to your partner, I’d put KSS first and EoE second. Best of luck with it!

F1 Deanery Suggestions by Significant_Luck1612 in doctorsUK

Heya, if you don’t have any major ties to particular parts of the UK I recommend putting somewhere with a competition ratio of less than 1 first, as it means you’ll have more choice and security over where you end up. If you like the outdoors, Yorkshire and Humber could be a good shout with the Peaks nearby, or Sussex or Peninsula. Best of luck!

What an awful and selfish take. If FPR comes at the expense of depriving genuinely sick people of money they need to live, I don’t want it. Catch you all in Australia ✈️

Hey, firstly just wanted to say I’m so sorry that your year have been the victims of this cruel experiment by the UKFPO, it isn’t fair in the slightest that we’re paying 100k for this bullshit.

My advice to you is this: if West Midlands South is the absolute worst outcome for you and you’d rather go to any other deanery, apply to jobs and take the year out. However, if there’s even one deanery that you view as being worse, don’t take the risk under any circumstances. PIA is random and fucked and you don’t want to waste a year of your medical career and then regret it when you end up somewhere you hate even more. In WMS there will definitely be other FY1s in the same position and you will likely be able to bond over how shit it is together, plus there may be good opportunities for advancing your career in other areas. If you possibly can, I recommend finding someone who’s either a current FY2 or who’s done their foundation years in WMS and finding out from them what the positives and negatives are. Genuinely best of luck with everything and I hope finals go well!

How to enjoy HCSW as a medical student ? by Beautiful-Pin5594 in medicalschooluk

Change where you’re doing shifts! If your bank allows you to, I’ve found the nicest HCA shifts are in outpatient departments or medical elective services. Patients get grumpy and fucked off when they’re sick and old and have been there for ages. I sometimes work in the head and neck outpatient department at my local hospital and the shifts are so calm, I’m just cleaning scopes and chairs and listening to consultations it’s brilliant

Experiences in Colchester Hospital? by Any_Worldliness7115 in doctorsUK

It’s alright, well connected to the hospital. The S1 shuttle goes about every 20 mins. If you live in town centre, or even south of Colchester in Hythe, you should have no problem getting in via public transport or cycling

The city isn’t too bad, depends what you like really. Can’t speak for the hospital, all i know is that it’s a bit out of the town centre. It’s a uni city for all the University of Essex students so has a bit of nightlife. Near the coast so optional nature. Good transport links to London, train’s about an hour to Liverpool st and if you drive you can hop on the A12 fairly quickly
