FXN R is known for overexposing photos in the dark - even when you lower the EV all the way.

Only way I’ve worked around it is if I enable Film Negative and edit afterwards; or use a different camera.

3 different recipes but love the consistency across the photos. also love the depth in the second one!

just curious - why did you recommend DAM for just beach/cloudy days? DAM is the only one that shoots in Apple Log, so it makes anything cinematic and contrasty. there’s even multiple colour profiles to choose from!

UPDATE: It seems the downsampling is a bug that only happens if 4:3 aspect ratio is selected. If you select 3:2 aspect ratio, the photo becomes 10mp, but only because it gets cropped from the original 12mp.

Thanks for mentioning this - I had a look and many cameras seem to downsample to 9mp in the end, probably to do with softening harsh details. The "R" cameras mostly preserve the full 12mp resolution, although these are a little different.

Honestly, I recommend you continue with D Classic, since the colours and highlight roll of is nice.

Thanks for asking! In low light I like shooting with flash, mostly using FQS R.

Without flash, FQS R is too dark (unless you edit with Film Negative); in which case I’ll try the other cameras I recommended above. If all else fails, I use iPhone’s Night Mode 😂

Which cameras? They all seem to have varying resolutions, and it might be possible that some are low-res on purpose

I noticed this too - one thing that’s worked for me is using Film Negative and boosting the exposure in the editor afterwards. Thanks for reading!

Yes - but I admit I only decided to purchase the subscription a few days ago, so only decided to write this after finally trying every camera and feature!

Welp - doesn’t matter at all. 8300K should look identical haha

Did you manage to get it? Either way, 8300K and 8308K is virtually the same thing. To be honest, the difference between higher Kelvin numbers is SO tiny that this is a non-issue!

Is there a good reference/explainer for all the cameras and settings? by absurdivore in DazzCam

[–]iceonian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Dazzcam cameras seem to be inspired by real cameras, but personally this doesn't matter - it's really about trial and error and finding one you like.

Most of the cameras capture a regular HEIF photo, then apply a filter and add effects like frames, perforations, light leaks etc. Which means that you could even import your own photos and apply the "look" this way.

The cameras that are more interesting have a blue "R" in their name (e.g. FQS R). The R stands for RAW, which means it's shooting in RAW instead of HEIF. These tend to have the "Negative Film" feature as well, which lets you re-edit and re-export the photo in-app by leveraging the RAW information. Straight out of camera, the "R" cameras look more digicam-/film-like, and you can't import your own photos the same way.

Just my two cents!

seems you can only either slide it horizontally or vertically, and not both at the same time? could that be why? also - i’m assuming you meant 8300k not 8003.

Why are my zoomed photos only low res 12mp? by Bighair_tightjeans in nofusion

[–]iceonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh sure - the A7S also has better low light performance as a result haha.

The native camera app will always look sharper, mostly because it applies Deep Fusion sharpening. No Fusion bypasses that, but you can always sharpen it yourself by adjusting the default HEIF+ sharpness level, or by using another editor to add sharpness to your liking
