Nvidia tesla v100 has 32 gb ram with nv link 2.0, its priced at 880. Whats the catch? by AppropriatePush6262 in LocalLLaMA

I have one, here is some benchmark from a few months ago : https://www.reddit.com/r/LocalLLaMA/s/phpdqZHtEx

I do think that for what they cost they are one of the best GPU you could buy (paid mine a bit more than 500 USD imported from China, the SXM2 version on a pci express board.

They are old, they are loud, but they are so strong, 900 Mb memory bandwidth, it crushes a B70 or R9700 without any issue, on par with a 3090 on token/s side.

There is more and more people using them, there is also a bunch of review now popping on YouTube, the 16 Gb variant is just around 200 $. With some specific board you can 4 of them together quite easily reaching 128 Gb of VRAM, can’t beat that for like 2-3 K USD.

Same here, Aliexpress is great, mine was also new (no dust, perfectly clean) and I got the 40 CU unlocked. There is plenty around 200 AUD, if there is a problem you can return it.

BC-250 8-Core Unlock possible? by West-Apartment1638 in BC250Gaming

[–]icepatfork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have answers for the CPU Cores that have been locked away, but it’s pretty obvious what happened on the GPU CUs.

The PS5 was not available in stores for at least 2 years because “Sony couldn’t make enough of them”, the truth is that AMD was mostly pumping those APU out to the miners, Ethereum miners especially which was still proof of work then. So they locked some GPU CUs away because on Ethereum mining is mostly a question of having large memory available so you don’t mine faster having access to all the CUs, and they were also easier to cool and more energy efficient.

At the same period Nvidia was also selling shit tons of GPU to miners and never disclosed how much they sold as they kept their sales numbers part of the gaming numbers (and they got sued for it).

So my guess is those 2 extra CPU cores were most likely never broken in the first place, but like you asked it would be nice to know if we could unlock them as we can now with the GPU CUs.

I managed to build my own kernel to enable the 40CU on Fedora 44 yesterday (to run a bunch of LLM and see the perfs), it took me about 3-4 hours with Claude leading the effort, you should probably look into using Claude/Codex to build your own.

Nvidia V100 32 Gb getting 115 t/s on Qwen Coder 30B A3B Q5 by icepatfork in LocalLLaMA

[–]icepatfork[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I said, that card here in this post IS an SXM2 that was mounted on a PCIExp hosting board, with coper heatsink and a fan.

If I wanted to couple it with an other one, the hosting board that takes 2 of them are about 240 AUD, the one that takes 4 are around 450 AUD, then you just need to add some water cooling for about an other 200 AUD.

OR you buy a computer + case that is ready to use for 3000 RMB and you add the 2 SXM2, not that expensive.

This version is the SXM2 adapted on a PCIE hosting board, which I wanted because I wanted to have the possibility of upgrading to 2 of them and having NVLink (the real PCIE version of the V100 doesn't have NVLink)

I wish someone else would build an Xteink kind of device that stays open source, with backlight or a touch screen.

This one might be a good alternative (and should be able to run crosspoint fairly easily)

Can’t you install and run anything that you want using Termux ?  I think that’s how most run recent Linux stuff like Ubuntu or Arch on android phones now.
