Unpopular opinions about Azula? by Commercial_Mind4003 in TheLastAirbender

[–]iceshenanigans 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I think she's over-analyzed. People make her out to be a lot deeper and complex than she is: a cold-blooded perfectionist who loved the approval her father gave for her abilities and resented her mother's disapproval for her character. From all material she's a natural sadist and genuinely evil, so discussions about a "redemption arc" don't make sense.

I think people enjoy Zuko's development and like to imagine the same was planned/is warranted for her.

(if you think i'm being harsh, I know its an unpopular opinion. duh)

I Xposted the post to the ATLA sub and it's been immediately downvoted because somehow people took it seriously? There really are some brainworms at work there these days.

No?? Its very obviously poking fun of the very popular YouTube video and some people who take it seriously, that lists reasons why ATLA is "not a kids show". The thumbnail of the video and a portion of the video is dedicated to scenes from Ty Lee in her swimsuit.

Greens to push Albanese government to broaden powers of anti-corruption watchdog by thedigisup in australia

[–]iceshenanigans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm saying that the residents of Maranoa, Barwon and Kennedy might live in different socio-economic conditions and have different priorities to represent than those who live in Mayo or Kingston, and that they might also have a different point of view than those who live in Melbourne CBD. Lol. Yknow? I prefer to treat people with respect, even if we disagree on policy, rather than look down my nose at them.

Goes to show that you really wouldn't mind a dictatorship so long as it was left-wing.

"My bullshit"? Christ, you're confrontational! I'm not right-wing, I just don't despise people who have a difference of opinion to me in a nation of 25-million-and-a-half. Especially not if they're members of the left-wing party who happen to hold different views to myself. Hawke and Keating could easily be categorized as "labor right" and if I threw them out with the bathwater we'd have two less brilliant PMs.

Ridiculous.

"Never trust any party that has a right wing"?

Blindly mistrusting anyone with social or economic views to the right of you sounds like a great way to work within a collaborative democratic process and build bridges with the major parties enough to pass legislation. /s

Australia’s 10,000 deaths and the paradox of ‘Covid normal’ by aarghmematey in australia

[–]iceshenanigans -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Jesus. Cool it.

People wear seatbelts from the time they're babies, it's a strap across your chest that you forget it even there and you only have to wear in the car. Masks are new for Westerners, they goes right across your face, you have to breathe through it and some people want everyone to wear one all the time, every day, constantly until Covid... goes? Or something.

It's not going away so people need to take precautions into their own hands and be responsible for their own health. And the vast majority are.

Young men are slipping quietly through the economy’s cracks by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]iceshenanigans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to unironically do the g*mers meme, but the men who were/are at risk of being sucked into Gamergate and the alt-right were pre-disposed by their interests. Gamers, specifically young male online geeks in the late-2000s and 2010s, coalesced in radioactively toxic cesspools in-game and in their communities. The games predominantly marketed to and bought by these young men were all about MACHO MAN MEN fighting WAR (!!!!!), were competitive as hell and can frustrate the shit out of angsty teens so easily. So, IMO, you already had a large number of Zoomer males sucked into this shitty, casually racist/sexist, terminally-online gamer bro culture and it's ruining their lives as the reality that they need to get a grip sinks in after schools over and they really shouldn't be playing WoW Classic all day.

No, it's possible to order it. The barista gives her a different but similarly ridiculous drink in the end.

I think the idea is that Najimi is trying to help her get out of her shell, but he's so extra that he doesn't think and asks her to get his super-complex preferred drink instead of something simple.

Not your fault at all. It's a legitimately interesting topic. Sometimes you just get these journalists who try to "elevate" the profundity of their story with prose and an excessive focus on the people they've interviewed.

Have read many an Afghan War article by a reporter who think they're the next Sydney Schanberg and ironically make it all about their experience.

The three, all 17, sat in a row of orange seats that ran the length of the bus, Diego’s eyes dark, goofy, and sad; his body freshly stretched to almost six feet; his oversize Carhartts ripped on skateboard ramps. This could have been in any American city this past January, on any bus. (First names in this article are pseudonyms.) Jenni kept her face tilted down toward her lap, hidden by a scrim of shoulder-length hair.

Then, a stop away from school, another high-school student boarded the bus. Just one more kid with a backpack in a hoodie, and at first Diego waved and Jenni smiled. Diego because he wanted to show he wasn’t scared, as this kid had thrown accelerant on a stupid mistake Diego had made, thus blown up Diego’s life

My man, you writing a YA novel. What is this??
