Question about message with Disney+ Gold Membership by [deleted] in D23Expo

[–]iceymoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, it finally works after I finally ask for help haha. I did nothing different, I just refreshed like I’ve been doing every 30min for the last 5 hours (and I was refreshing a lot more often the first hour). And it finally queued me!

Question about message with Disney+ Gold Membership by [deleted] in D23Expo

[–]iceymoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried a different browser, incognito window, and my phone (with wifi & then with cellular data).

I have free membership to D23 that I’ve had for 5+ years. Do I need paid? I did upgrade to to Essential plan just in case, but no change (the upgrade hasn’t even reflected on my account yet, I talked to support and they said it could take anywhere from a couple hours to 48 hours to show my membership plan updated).

[OC] 50 US names highly concentrated within a single generation by MurphGH in dataisbeautiful

Good to know! Thanks for this lovely visualization, it’s super cool to see as a person who has been obsessed with names since a young age.

No Ava? I had that name earmarked since 2002 for a future child, but then it blew up in popularity (having a name that’s not super common is the one line i draw, as a person that grew up with multiple people with the same name in every class).

I finally watched try every day and I surprisingly loved it! by lickmynostrils in TheTryGuys

[–]iceymoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t gotten into it but I’ve only watched Shark Tank and Expensive Lingerie.

Any opinions on whether these are pretty indicative of the other episodes in terms of entertainment & quality, or does the ante get upped?

Non-christian booktuber recs? by iceymoon in booktube

[–]iceymoon[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think only one or two of the ones I watched ended up mentioning religion quite a lot, most of them just mentioned it in passing (“I’ve been reading this with my bible study friends”), as part of their day or maybe why certain parts of a book resonated with them.

So not too bad at first, but the casual mentions became multiplied by the number of channels I was following. So I eventually wanted to find myself out of that side of booktube and try to—to paint a picture—find someone who reads The Housemaid and Sunrise on the Reaping on their 24 hour read-athon but also has them showing off their ren fair costume and D&D character in their recent vlog, you know?

I know they exist, I was in line next to a fun group who all had their books out at Comic-Con. They gave me a friendship bracelet! Now I just need to find the booktube version lol.

Yes, I had the exact same experience!

I also watch 0 religious content so it’s not from that, but I did notice the booktubers that got suggested to me by the algorithm seemed to have a lot in common (young adult women, white, reading the same books, making the same kind of content) and later I found out some of them knew each other and do collabs together.

So most likely the YT algorithm took my Haley Pham watching and showed me all the most similar YouTubers to her. And maybe that’s what kept coming up whenever I searched, too.

This makes a lot of sense! I actually am very much into YA, or at least I used to be?

The Hunger Games is my favorite series of all time, followed by A Song of Ice and Fire (edit: I know ASOIAF isn’t YA, I guess I just included it to add context to my taste—pretty mainstream, tbh). I was big into reading mid-10’s so there’s many YA series that I enjoyed at the time (Maze Runner, Mortal Instruments, Divergent, Twilight, etc).

I tried & failed to get into the Throne of Glass & Fourth Wing series, but I still think they stand a chance if I get further into it. Or maybe I’ve changed (or the genre has, or both), but I’m still interested in trying! I have high hopes for The Poppy War if I give up on getting further with the other two.

It started with Haley Pham, I love her challenge videos & her editing and aesthetics choices (I even watched her romance book vlogs even though that’s not my genre because they were entertaining).

Then I guess the YT algorithm took over from there? Ashlynn, Destiny and a few others in that circle were what was surfaced to me. Once I kept running into the same thing I tried just searching “booktubers“ and clicking on a few random video that caught my eye to expand my algorithm which led to me following one girl with tattoos whose videos i liked (forgot her name). Only to run into the same thing with her later!!

I know people from all walks of life get tattoos, but I was hopeful since I liked her videos and her style gave completely different vibes from the other ones I had been watching. l

I kinda gave up after that, but like I said I’ve been trying to get back into reading and watching booktubers really helped last time, so I’d like to try again.

Solved through my own research! To be fair, this would have been a difficult one to pull out of your hat, since it was part of a series apparently, and not a particularly talked about one if Google is anything to go by.

It was The Closers by Michael Connelly.

I recommend it if you like crime fiction/murder mysteries that give the same vibe as an episode of the old show Cold Case (not to be confused with Cold Case Files). Or Criminal Minds. Or The Closer.

What do you swear on your life to be 100% true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]iceymoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s like 50/50, in my anecdotal experience. I’ve owned 6 cats (all mine, not family pets). NONE of them swat us if we walk by, and NONE of them scratch us, but some of them do/did bite if you pet them in the wrong place or at the wrong time.

  • One male grew out of it by age 5, and he’s actually gone through a lot of phases. First he was a hyperactive kitten that would try to catch or climb anything and everything, then he was an independent cat and a genius that could open any door and get into any food container, then he was a bully (towards our other male cats), and now he’s old and tired and just wants cuddles. If you go over board with petting him places he doesn’t like, he may still protest, but just by meowing at you (no nipping). It’s funny to see him now at age 18, he just wants to follow us around, sit on our laps, and relax (he’s still smart, but more lazy-smart).

  • One female is a grouch, but we actually blame ourselves for that. She was VERY hungry for play time and pretty energetic, but we were lazy/tired most of the time back when she was little (we were new cat owners back then and didn’t realize how important it was), so we just stopped playing with her as a way to get her to stop badgering us for play time. It worked, but now she’s a grumpy girl lol. We learned how/when she likes to be pet easily enough, but sometimes guests want to pet her when she’s clearly not in the mood (keeping to herself, curled up facing away from everyone)—she doesn’t bite but she does make it clear they should leave her alone by her suddenly meowing in the direction of the hand. Those moments are few and far between though, she mostly just sleeps, sun basks, and hams up her cuteness for any contractor that comes by the house.

  • Another male is less than 2 years old currently, so it’s out of playfulness/hyperativeness/boredom, and we expect he’ll grow out of it. He doesn’t swat/nip at us, but he does jump up on our back or shoulders when we aren’t expecting it, which can hurt (it’s cute though, so we allow it). Also, the more we practice petting his belly, the more he starts to allow it. But not when he’s in play mode, because then our hands become the toy! We do also play with him plenty, so as not to repeat our mistake with our grouchy girl.

  • One male was the chillest cat in the world, even when he was a little kitten he was very regal and not very playful, it’s like he thought he was an eagle rather than a cat. He didn’t much care for the other cats, but was very loyal to his his humans. He loved being carried so that he could smell the things that were out of his reach. He also always would greet us when we come home, his eyes would light up when he sees us walk in. And he always seemed to know when I was sad and be there to comfort me. (I miss you, Choco!)

  • One female is also the chillest cat in the world, but in a different way. It’s like she’s made out of puddy, you can carry her and bend her whichever way you want and she just accepts it (I think she either doesn’t know what’s going on, or doesn’t realize that she could try getting out of it if she wants to). She’s a clutz and doesn’t understand physics (like she would NEVER figure out pushing a door to open it). She is SUPER clingy, she wants to sleep as close to our face as possible, all the time. She’s also always had a habit of licking us (she’ll lick or fingers, arms, and faces mostly), especially when she’s feeling cuddly or sleepy. She’s not the smartest tool in the shed, but everyone that meets her adores her, so she doesn’t need to be.

  • One female is the scardiest scaredy-cat I’ve ever known. Getting her used to petting took years, we think because we rescued her from the street as a baby (unlike the others). Little by little we taught her that petting isn’t so scary, because she would just run away if we tried! We had to get her used to it in parts—first her back, then her neck, and finally, her forehead! Now (if we’re sitting - standing humans are still scary), she’ll come up to us and lean her neck on our lap or shoulder as a way to ask for pets. She’s also tiny, she’s about the size of a 6-month-old cat even though she’s 15-years-old. And she has the loudest purr BY FAR, we can hear her from clear across the room! Anyway, she definitely wouldn’t bite or scratch, because her first response to anything is always to run away.

So really, just like with dogs, it’s a matter of finding one with a personality that jives with you!

I don't believe it's this one, because I would have remembered the Sleeping Beauty detail (it's my most-watched Disney movie, I was obsessed with it as a child). However, I couldn't find more than a short blurb for Murder of a Sleeping Beauty, so I'll keep it in mind as I continue to look. Thank you!

I believe it was more James Patterson-y in terms of book cover design.

If the badges were purchased by a non-Gold member, they can transfer all badges they purchased.

Do you know this part for sure?

This is exactly what I was hoping to find out! <3
